Why am I losing weight?

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 10/21/10. Since then I have lost 28 pounds. I went this week for my first fill and the doctor said I did not need one. I am loosing 1-2 pounds. WHY? I am not complaining but....has anyone gone without fills and lost weight? I would love to if possible. I eat 3 small meals. I feel full quickly, I eat mainly Protein. All comments would help.....

I went without any restriction for 5-6 months and lost a lot of weight. My surgeon has always said that you don't want to get addicted to adjustments. I didn't really get what he meant when he first said it but it makes sense now. If it aint broke, don't fix it. If you're doing great, and you're not starving all the time and you're losing weight, just go with it. Then if you start to get hungry, have an adjustment.

The only reason for getting a fill is if you're hungry. If you aren't hungry, then your doctor is right...no need for a fill. congratulations on the weight loss!

I seem to think that I will not get a fill as well on the 8th. I got banded on the 11/4 but started my pre-op diet on the 22nd of October. I have lost 50 lbs since and 27lbs are since the surgery on the 4th. I eat 3 small meals a day and do not feel hungry. I think that I could probably eat more but mentally I have been satisfied with what I eat. I would like to move forward with out a fill on the 8th but we will see.

Congrats to you feeling the way you do and the success.

All I can say is you must be lucky! If you feel full you already have the result the fills aim for. :)

I've lost 90lbs+ without a fill, so yes, it is possible.

I am 16 months out and lost 80 lbs and never required much fill. So don't worry there will be plenty of time for fills.

Those who lost weight without a fill... Were you a low bmi? I wonder if having less fat around the stomach makes the band sit tighter in the beginning ?

No. My BMI was hovering at 43 I believe?

My doctor said that he has had men not have a fill for 1 year and lose huge amouts of weight. He said no one really knows why, but it may be physiological or just a mental thing where some people can change their habits for the better. Take what you can get!! The band will work in different ways for everyone.

I lost all my 90 pds with no fills and have been maintaining for the last year. Was banded 12/20/08 and next week will be my 2nd bandiversary with the weight loss. Still no fills, but learning not to eat too fast or too big of a bite, been good for quite a while.

Thank you, sparkplug!

I was wondering if it was normal to not need a fill. I am still doing okay without one. I really don't get hungry. Sometimes I want to eat just because it is something to do but I resist. I am loosing about 1-2 pounds a week. I am afraid that i f I do get a fill, even a tiny one, that I will be too tight since I already have restriction.

Sounds like you hit the Holy Grail. A band that's doing the job without a fill. Something we all wish for, tee, hee, hee.

Don't worry. Go with the flow. If you start to feel hungry when you shouldn't then talk to your doc again.

But hey, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

P.S. Congrats on the 28 pounds. Feels great, doesn't it?

I had restriction day one of surgery ..I just got a fill this week 2cc and feel the exact same. I felt something was wrong because I could not eat for the entire month with no fill... So we will see how it goes with the 2cc fill. Wish you luck

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
