What a difference 3 mos make...

Recommended Posts

Three months ago I got the lap band. And I haven't really been losing as fast as others only 18lbs in the past 3mos but today I did something I physically could not do 3 mos ago....Clean and re-arrange my daughters room and my sons room all in a matter of one morning.

I would never have been able to summon the energy to move furniture and clean if I hadn't lost 18lbs and that was all do to the Lap band! I may not be losing fast and get discouraged every now and then but today has shown me what a difference my decision has made!!!

SO HAPPY I GOT MY BAND!!!! :D :bananajump::success1: :welldoneclap:

That is sooo Cool!!! I'm learning as I go that it's not all about the numbers. It's about our health - the alternative, where we were before was grim - I'll take where I am now anyday over where I was before.

Very happy for you and your new found energy!

God Bless You!

Rebecca

First of all, congrats on your weightloss thus far. And on your new-found energy level.

As far as the rate at which you are losing....please try not to compare yourself to others. Every pound lost is a step in the right direction. You are averaging 6lbs per month. If you continue at this rate, next year at this time you will be down another 72lbs. Just keep focused on your ultimate goal. Good luck!

That is so great!!! I have to remind myself of the little things too that make a big difference too sometimes...I think we focus so much on weight loss and numbers that we miss out on the differences even 5lbs can make...I too have alot more energy I am a month ahead of you and have lost 40lbs but havnt lost anything in over a month...been very frustrated with that and its hard to stay focused. Congrats on your almost 20lb loss! Keep at it!

I think the NSV moments are worth far more than the scale moving.

Congrats on your lost so far! I too am a slow loser and do get frustrated that I am not losing as fast as I think that I should. I have had my husband hide the scale from me since I was very down on myself when I would weigh several times a day. The scale has been gone for a week now and I dont even think about wanting the weigh myself. Just focus on the nsv's and keep your eye on the prize!

I too am a slow loser, I'm 4-months in and have only lost 17lbs. I haven't gone down in clothes sizes but the clothes I was stuffing myself into are now loose and I'm always having to pull up my pants as they bag off.

I think us slow losers need to post more often to support each other. I really beat myself up when I see someone in my time frame has lost mega weight. When family ask I always say I've ONLY lost x-amount of weight, my husband scolds me and says you have lost and should be proud of that and quit thinking I haven't accomplished anything.

Congrats and great job at your success Zeniada and all of the slow losers, at least we are now LOSERS!!

Slow Losers Unite!!

I was banded on 9-30-10 and am so glad to know I'm not alone when it comes to slow weight loss. I have been so discouraged. I have lost 29 lbs so far, 20 of which was lost pre-surgery. So I 've dropped 9 lbs since surgery but expected to see more loss than I have. The good news however, is that I have been able to button up tops that I couldn't before. Thank you all for your posts and for helping to motivate me again.

Congrats! I completely understand because I now can walk up a flight of stairs without getting out of breath and it's so much better

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
