How do you get all of your protein in?

Recommended Posts

I am finding it hard to get the required amount of Protein in during the day and am feeling the effects of this. I have tried to get in the protein through Protein Drinks, but I can't stomach that many in a day. Also, I have tried eating tuna, refried Beans, and eggs, but I honestly do not have an appetite for them. Is anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions on how to get adequate protein?

I am having the same problem. Tomorrow will be a week since surgery and it has been a challenge getting all the Protein in. I went to GNC on yesterday and bought some protein packs. I have been trying to mix them in anything I can because I am SICK of the protein drinks, they are starting to make me gag. I mixed some into the yogurt i had for Breakfast it wasn't too bad. I will also try to mix some into my ice cream. At this point protein is my primary focus.

i have actually found a Protein powder i like! it is chocolate-Peanut Butter made by Body Fortress. This is the breakdown:

2 scoops mixed w/about 12 oz of Water - adjust to suit taste:

Calories: 270

Calories from Fat: 40

Total Fat: 4g

Saturated Fat: 2g

Cholesterol: 90mg

Total Carbohydrates: 7g

Dietary Fiber: 1g

Sugars: 3g

Calcium: 243mg

Iron: 1.3mg

Phosphorus: 175mg

Magnesium: 59mg

Copper: 0.07mg

Sodium: 130mg

Potassium: 470mg

PROTEIN: 52g !!!! :D

compare to Boost, Calorie Smart

1 bottle, 8 fl oz:

Calories: 190

Calories from Fat: 60

Total Fat: 7g

Saturated Fat: 1g

Cholesterol: 10mg

Total Carbohydrates: 16g

Dietary Fiber: 3g

Sugars: 4g

Calcium: not listed

Iron: not listed

Phosphorus: not listed

Magnesium: not listed

Copper: not listed

Sodium: 180mg

Potassium: 150mg

PROTEIN: 16g !!!!

now - i do like boost chocolate - but if i can get double the Protein in a 12 oz that i mix myself compared to an 8 oz - i'm gonna go for the 12oz drink - they also list the breakdown for 1 scoop on the container. i mixed a little powder in my greek yogurt, which is also high in protein, and it was quite tasty.

the container costs approx $16 at wally world. i was drinking the tropical punch 'shots' from the same company and it would take me two shots to equal two scoops of powder and the taste wasn't a favorite of mine.

hope this helps.

please note there is a notice at the bottom: use this product as a food supplement only. do not use for weight reduction. i'm feeling ok with drinking this as i only have one or two drinks per day.

Lori, thanks so much for the info! My in-laws bought me some vanilla whey Protein from GNC today and it was $67!! That stuff better be made of gold. I may return it and try the Protein you suggested.

What do you think about the taste of that Greek yogurt? I have not tried it yet and am not a fan of yogurt anyways. Does it come flavored?

The greek yogurt does some flavored. Just watch the sugar amount. I just buy the plain and drizzle some honey on top. It is thicker than regular yogurt just fyi. I actually prefer it more.

GNC is horrible with their prices - now ur container may be bigger than mine - but less than $20 compared to almost $70! WOW!!

i had never had it before - but do like yogurt - and i'm in L.O.V.E.!!! i buy the chabani brand in the tub - it's vanilla flavored; there are other flavors also - and i add a little of splenda brown sugar to it and, like i said previously, put a little of the Protein Powder. i prefer it in the tub because i think it's a better deal and i can take out 4 ozs at a time.

greek is thicker and creamier - i also tried fage - but chabani was cheaper - and no real taste difference for the price.

i've been cooking a couple of batches of Beans and peas this weekend; hoping to add to the protein levels. i make a thin puree/soupy consistency by using my most favorite thing in the kitchen - the immersion stick blender!! lol

Yoplait now makes a Greek yogurt that is plain, fat free and twice the Protein. 1 tub has 14g. I cannot eat it plain but I use it as sour cream and I cannot tell the difference. I also stir it 50/50 with lite Helmanns for dressing on tuna and chicken salad. Good stuff!

I like the chocolate Unjury shakes. I order the powder online. I also agree with the greek yogurt, I eat chili often, Beans (all types), etc. On occasion, (especially in the beginning after surgery) I had felt slightly weak, and I didn't know why. Someone on this site said the same thing and recommended eating a banana, or even half. That seems to do the trick for me. It may not be only Protein you lack, but other Vitamins. I also take a chewable Vitamin daily.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
