Hi everyone! I just wanted to stop in and introduce myself...My name is Kristy and I started this journey back in early July - I was referred to the Calgary Weight Management Group and started the lifestyle and weight management classes. I received notification on November 9th that I was accepted for the lap band surgery. Unfortunately, the Calgary Health Region only covers 25 surgeries a year - I am so fortunate to have been chosen. I have been very physically active and know that that will help me reach my goal even more. I'm 38 years old, married and have two fur babies. I go to my first Lap Band meeting tonight and am going to be purchasing my Optifast liquid pre op diet. I also see the surgeon for the first time for my consultation tomorrow. I'm a bit nervous, but excited as well! Looking forward to interacting and getting as much advice on here as I can...

Looking forward to meeting lots of people and getting support!

Kristy :P

Welcome Kristy!

I was a nervous reck as well and was banded last Wednesday Nov 17th in Mexico (I live in BC)...sometimes we read too much and sometimes we don't read enough but I will tell you this, I was almost crawling out of my skin the day of surgery because of everything I knew and the stories I read from this site!!! For me, it was over kill! I woke from surgery and I was fine..yes the gas is a bit much but try letting it out and I found sitting up right to allow it to come to the surface was helping me! Everyone has a different journey, a different story and a different out come, I hope you have safe journey and just take it all in! Because I was a self pay I did not have to do the diet before and since last Wednesday I have lost 12.4 lbs...might be mostly Water but it is 12.4 lbs!

Good luck!

Sandi

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
