May be a dumb question, but I had surgery 5 days ago, still hurtin a bit. Most of my pain is where the port and band holes are. Is that normal? Tylenol w/codeine's got nothing on this pain. I thought it would all hurt less the same amount. And the hole I have right above my belly button, is dented in. That one hurts too, not as much. All the others feel pretty good.

Is it just me? Or should I stop worrying?

I think that is normal, pain should go away in a few more days if not call your Doctor, everyone is different and has different pain levels. But sounds normal to me try not to over do it.

I am thrilled with the process. I had Horizon BCBS, so I had to have Dr. Fresco from the Montclair office. I believe Dr. Reich was the assistant surgeon, because he was the one who came to see me a few hours after surgery. They were both great. Honestly, she put me more at ease than he did. :hi: BUT, would still do it over again even with the pain. I only had it done this past thursday, and aside from the pain at 3 of the 6 holes, I'm doing really good. I loved how they coordinated everything for me, and everyone spoke so highly of Tina, I only bugged her once. She found out my answer and called me back. I like how it's almost like a family there, how they really take care of you. There was only one nurse in the hospital I didn't like, the rest were amazing. Loved Janet @ night, and Daisy in the day.

They are not kidding about the walking. I got up 6 or 7 times from surgery to discharge to use the restroom, and I made sure I did at least 2 laps around the unit each time, I only had bad gas pains on day 4 for about 4 hours. At home I walked around the block too to help it.

Hardocore- well worth it. They mixed me up so many shakes, I bought two tubs the first day, brought packets home of the ones they didn't have available to mix up, and went back for another. Tomorrow I have my follow up, and while I'm in Manahawkin, I'm going to stop by to grab 2 more tubs, they are on sale until the 4th, buy one get one half off. I had cherry powder today, didn't care for it, but refridgerated the rest, tried it again, what a difference.

I really learned much more from this board than I did at support group or nut class. Has really saved me. LOL

Now that I wrote a book... hahaha

Feel free to keep in touch and message me any questions about anything! Good luck!

That's probably what I did. I felt good yesterday, and was out for most of the day hobbling around slowly doing errands with my mom. Was so tired of sitting in the house. Guess today I'm paying for it. :)

Thanks, Cheri!

Hey Penguin ( I like your nickname ) Your post attracted my attention since I had the same problem about 4 weeks ago post op. ( banded Oct 6 )

I have had horrible post op pain as soon as I woke up in the post op room.

My chest was on fire, my shoulder hurt for one week and port incisions hurt like crazy until I went to my 7 day post op appointment and he gave me a full months supply of pain pills. I am so grateful for that! And I was very hungry so he put me on appetite suppressants till my first fill.

I love my lap band ( someday I will give it a name )

but the pain I had to go through was nearly unbearable. I was at 8 on a 10 pain scale for about a week. In fact I can feel my port under the scar and sometimes when I sit the way that it puts pressure on the incision I still hurt.

I consulted my phisican about it and he said it was normal while I am healing.

Oh and I had nagging pain under my left breast. It was awful.

You are lucky, from what I hear, that you are not having to have prescription pain pills and that your pain is bearable.

But as we all say here - talk to your doctor... He knows the best. ( or she )

Today he said I shouldn't need pain pills anymore... BS to that! I just need to take it easier. Lesson learned. That's a gread Idea to name it! It just took me a week to name my cat that I just adopted LOL

I was wondering if it would still hurt after healing. I notice if I turn a certain way, it hurts much more. Guess I'll have it that way too. But very excited, today I weighed in and was 40 down from original weight, lost 21 from preop to post op! This was my wedding weight, can't wait until I get to the weight I was when I met my hubby (220) and then goal. That will be so nice.

Thanks so much!

Hi Kimber~

I was banded on October 27th. I haven't felt any pain for the past 2 days and I'm feeling good. 2 days later I walked a mile to ease the gas pain. And on Saturday i walked 2 miles. On Sunday I rested and by Monday I was feeling normal. So far no hunger pains but I do miss eating crunchy things.

Take Care,

Dana

OMG I just called and talked to my Doctor's office about this very thing this morning. First thing she asked me is if I had lifted anything (as this has just become most painful area over the last few days). Since I had not, she figured it was just healing. I was banded October 26. Your description is almost the exact of mine.

They will not give me more help with pain relievers either, but luckily I have good pain killers with my fybro that I can add on to. Codeine is NOT working grrrr...

I find it better if I hold that area of my stomach while on the move. I went out for the first time today and that helped during the outing. And slow going.

Great to know that I have someone in this with me!

Maybe try laying flat as much as possible. The more movement of the stomach muscles, the more likely the port will rip from the abdominal wall - not saying that that's what has happened to you, but even a tiny little tear can be very painful.

Just try resting for a couple of days to get the body tissues strong again and see what happens.

I was banded on October 27th. Now I have had many surgeries and I have to say that the pain at my port was the worst pain I have ever had.

It changed from an acute, burning, tearing pain to a more dull pain two days ago. It is now tolerable. I only get the burning pain if I move funny.

I am very swollen and bruised at the port site as well.

But so far, I love my band....

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
