I was a diet coke addict for a very long time. And I had to give it up after surgery..wasn't too bad bc I xouldnt have anything rieally bc I was healing and didn't want anything. I'm 3 yrs post op and I have a few mouthfuls every now and then when I crave it. My dr said its not good but a tiny bit would be ok. I would not recommend drinking more than a tiny mouthful every once in awhile. Like I said it doesn't bother me when I do..plus its only like once a week or 2..but I wouldn't wanna chance it with any more than that.

Of course I think you should follow your MD's instructions, but mine says not drinking diet coke is a myth. He even explains it on his dvd that explains each surgery. He shows scientifically how the carbonation cannot cause a slip or stretching of your pouch.

I'm new to the forum and sure this subject has already been discussed, but here I go anyway. I was a diet coke addict, and was banded September 2nd. I have not had a single drink but I'm wanting one so bad I can taste it. Is there anyone out there that is still drinking carbonated drinks while banded and what did it do to you?

If you pour the drink over ice & tip it between 2 glasses & then swish it round with a straw-to get the worst of the fizz out & drink it slowly-i've always been ok after doing this! Also i asked my surgeon bout this (as it's how i drink my Jack Daniels lol) he said it would just give you nasty wind pain if you drank it really fizzy.

I don't think I was an "addict" per say but I liked many carbonated beverages. I might have had a few a week but not cases or anything. I also like other stuff as well (thank goodness) I was not much of a tea drinker (but I am now).

I was banded 10 months ago and I haven't had anything carbonated (wait I might have had A beer but I can never finish it, I'd rather have a cocktail) I have not had a soda in over 10 months. My initial surgeon said no, my new surgeon (due to insurance change) says why not as long as I let it go flat (sit it on the counter opened for 30-45 minutes)

I had dreams about diet coke (pepsi sucks); almost naughty ones;) at the beginning, now I don't think about it. The doctor tells me I can have one but now its a game to me, a game of will...I mean its been 10 months, why ruin the streak? And its fun coffee table conversation to say I havent had a soda in 10 months(it shocks people)

All my life, I gave into my will or lack thereof. Now I triumph over my cravings(mostly), my body, my will. It has nothing to do with slip this, or no that...its all about me.

Goodbye 75 pounds (only 25 more to go) and I am sure the no soda has a part in it as well. My skin thanks me too!

It saves money too.

At no time did my doctor tell me that I could not drink carbonated beverages and he also did not tell me that I could not drink while eating. I have done both since day one. I drink carbonated beverages like diet sprite, beer, and champagne. The only thing that I would say that bothers me is the amount of restriction I have with such a small amount of Fluid inside the band. I have a 10cc band and I have 2cc's in the band. I find that almost everything gets stuck, and there are some days that I could only intake liquids.< /p>

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
