Third Week and Hungry

Recommended Posts

I was just banded on the 27th and it is not even a full week yet and I am starving. I mean the kind of starving that my stomach makes so many noises and the hunger pains actually hurt. I have tried to do the liquids and I am not even on full liquids yet and don't know how much more of this I can take. I don't have the energy to much of anything and I am weak and have headaches. Is it normal to feel this hungry the first week of surgery? I would kill for some mashed potatoes right about now!!!

I am so glad that I decided to check out the forum this morning and read up. I was about to post on this SAME ISSUE! I started my pre-op diet Oct.1 at 190.6. I was banded October 15th. The morning of surgery I weighed 180.6. Last week I stalled at 172.6 for 6 days and yesterday I weighed 174.2. I want to cry. I am hungry ALL THE TIME. I can eat anything in any amount. I feel like I have not even been banded. Yesterday I drank two Protein shakes and had a 1/3 cup of Caesar salad and 1/2 cup of Lasagna for dinner. I chew, chew, chew (even thou I can swallow just about any amount). 174.2 on the scale this morning. I too have been suffering from diarrhea but I would get "bouts" before I was banded. Mine tends to be hormonal. I've thought about calling my surgeon to beg for an early fill before I gain anymore weight back. My 1st fill appointment is Nov. 17th.

I am trying to breathe, be calm and carry on :)

Crapp!!! I just scheduled a band a fill and they can't get me in until Dec 13, plus I looked at my calendar and realized I am only two weeks post band. I was thinking three b/c that was when it was originally scheduled. I know what a crazy thing to forget. So Next week it may get worse, I guess. Double Crapp!!

I was banded on Oct 1 and am just starting to get the hunger pains you are describing- I am also drinking Protein shakes for Breakfast and lunch with light Snacks like yogurt as a filler. But, I have stalled in my weight loss, lost about 45 pounds since starting the pre-op diet- I asked my surgeon last time I was in (for my first post op appt) and he explained that I may not see any pounds come off right away, but more inches. I didn't want to hear that- but it has been true- I have lost 4 pant sizes since starting the pre-op diet. I am hoping that my first fill gives me more restriction.

Don't eat anything that you aren't supposed to- you can really hurt yourself- so even if you think you have no restriction, you do and you won't find out until its too late....

If your constantly hungry...look at what you are eating...protein is so important, and definetely helps keep you satisfied between meals. Also look at your calories, I stalled out because I wasn't getting enough nutrition. I realized that your body needs fuel to burn. Personally for me, I need about 1100 calories a day, or I plateau and won't lose an ounce. Hope this helps some of you while your starting out your journey...Best of luck to all of you!! ~ Christy

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
