Think I may have over did it today?

Recommended Posts

I was feeling so good when I came home from work today so I decided to go for a walk. I walked a little over a mile and I think I walked a little too fast. I feel so swollen and sore. I'm 10 days post op. When did everybody start trying to push the exercise? Did I do this too early? Feeling kind of yucky right now.

Being up and about after surgery is a good thing. My doc encouraged as much walking as a person felt they could do. I was walking at least 2 miles a day 4 days after surgery. But, if you are concerned as to what your limits should be with exercise, give your doc's office a call and get some answers.

Good luck as you start on this journey.

Thank you so much for your reply. I feel like I may have been a little too weak when I did it. I was able to get down only about half of my Protein Shake at lunch. Since I came in and rested for a while and drank a whole Protein shake, I feel much better. My stomach still feels a littel swollen, but I am sure that will pass in a few hours. I am definitely going to try to walk again tomorrow - just not on am empty stomach.

My Dr. required me to walk for 60 minutes everyday. I found that when I did during the first 2 weeks iit was simply too much. I can do much better now, it may be helpful for you to ice the area. That was very helpful to me.

You will build up your stamina with each week. You will be so surprised as you lose the weight how much energy you will have. Keep moving and adding more each time. Maybe you should try drinking a bit of Protein Drink b/4 your walks to give you a little boost. I know I am always tighter after physical exertion.

If you were not doing rigorous exercise pre surgery don't expect that you can start off with a lot now. Gradually increase your exercise. I swim everyday for an hour and when I started back at the gym on day four (treadmill); I needed to take a nap when I got home. I was not walking terribly fast, had zero incline and still pulled a muscle in my right lower abdomen (opposite side from the port).

I was not on any exercise program pre-surgery. I've just felt so great these past few days and I think I just hit it a little too hard today for my first time - and especially with nothing on my stomach. Thanks for everybody's support and advice.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
