Newbie in MKE, Dec 2 surgery

Hi all

My name is Nicole and I live in Milwaukee. I just finished my 6th required insurance visit and have surgery scheduled for Dec 2nd.

It's weird...I've been very gung ho about this and getting through the 6 doctors visits, telling everyone around me who is doubting that this is what I want to do. And now that I have a surgery date, I feel like vomitting all the time because I'm so nervous.

I think the thing that I'm so nervous about is losing weight and then being stuck with excess skin...the thought of that might be worse than being so overweight.

I'd love to hear anyone's thoughts on that...I'm 30, 5ft5 and 280 lbs. I know a woman who had gastic bypass who didn't have any extra skin...but my fiance keeps asking me about it and every time he mentions it I get more and more nervous....

Thoughts?

Hi Nicole, I was banded on Oct 4th and this was the best thing I've ever done for myself. I too thought about having the FLAPPIES but decided I'd cross that bridge when i get to it. I'm just so excited about getting to a heatlhy weight and knowing I'm on my way to buying regular clothes in a regular store!!!

Welcome to the journey and Good Luck

Thanks for the response. Congrats to you, it looks like you've lost about 20 lbs since your band.

I'm such a worry wart...I should just do like you and say I'll cross that bridge when I come to it...

I've seen some posts that say some good shape wear covers it up if it happens, but I know that's not going to be enough for me.

I'm getting married next November...and as much as I don't want to be a fat bride, I also don't want to have unsightly skin flapping around on my wedding day either.

It's really making me re-think this whole thing.

I'm with you, Newbie! The extra skin really worries me also. Does anyone have any tips on what can be done to help reduce the excess skin.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
