I want this thing out of my body...

Recommended Posts

I am 2 weeks post op this has probably been the worst 2 weeks of my life. I am begining to doubt I will ever feel well again and the wieght lost has NOT been worth it. Insurance will only cover removal if there is a complication. Each side effect that I've had from not being able to even take in Water, to this round the clock heartburn and indigestion(even though I'm hardly able to eat) is taking it's toll on me. I don't know how many more days of this I can take, and quite frankly I just want to scream or punch something.

Jenn, what does your doctor say about this? If you really are this frustrated, and if things are that bad, then you need to ask about it.

I was in pretty bad discomfort for 2 weeks after banding.. and significant weight loss didn't start for me till 3 weeks after banding..

I agree with Dave, you need to go have a heart to heart with your surgeon.

Eeeek. Maybe you have too much fill? Don't give up! Have a talk to your surgeon.

Go in with the mentallity that things will get better, not that you want it out.

It's normal to feel like crap after surgery and anaesthesia.Maybe your band was filled at the time of surgery which for many people causes problems. Talk to your Dr and if he did prefill it get him to take the fill out . You will feel heaps better. At this stage you need to concentrate on healing. Don't worry about the weight loss - that will come soon enough.

Hope you get this sorted and start feeling better soon.

My heart goes out to you, I didn't suffer as severely as you are right now, but I also had heartburn and nausea daily after I was banded, after about a week and a half, I finally had that nausea start to take it's leave and now I only suffer from it if I eat too quickly or too much.

I hope things improve for you, definitely give your surgeon a call and discuss your concerns with them.

Call your surgeon, either something is wrong (prefill) or you might just have tough it out up for a few more days or a week. Did that sound rude? Did not mean to it is just how I see it. After having surgery some people are going to take longer to heal and feel better. If you can make it through the hard part it get so much easier later. But you have to be able to get liquids down for sure if not call doctor right away. Hope you feel better soon.

Jen,

It sounds like you haven't had your post op appointment, right? I saw my doc 1 week after surgery, but i believe I have seen people here that have been scheduled at 2 weeks or 3. Everyone here is right, you must call your surgeon. Many people suffer ill effects from the anesthesia and you may be one of them. You also may have problems with the pain meds. It is hard to say since you did not give much detail. The one thing I think we can all agree on is that you should call your surgeon as soon as possible.

It sounds like you are going through a very difficult time and I hope you feel better soon. Please be proactive and get the help you need. Do not suffer in silence. Even if your pain and suffering is something that will only abate with time, your doctor should be able to put your mind at ease by explaining to you exactly what is going on with your body right now.

Please continue to look through this forum, there is a wealth of information here.

~Fran

Ditto what everyone else said. Not sure why you would be having indigestion, heartburn, difficulty eating, etc. unless he put a fill in at the time of surgery. Call him.

I'm assuming he has you on a puree or mushie diet as most do so this strikes me as 'not right'. Those things should be sliders even with a fill.

I think you should see your surgeon NOW! It's possible he put in a fill at surgery and it's just too much. If that's the case he can remove some of it and you will feel better.

I was banded July 28th this year. The first 3 weeks were awful. I wanted mine out too and if anyone had told me how bad it was going to be I might not have done it! The 3rd week was the hardest and I was getting VERY depressed. I tried to do too much and expected too much too soon! Things are much better now, it just took time to really heal. It is outpaitent, but it is still surgery. I am down 18 pounds and feel great now. Talk to your doctor, but then give it time. Walking helped so many symptoms, even a short walk. Don't give up.

Thanks for replying. And for helping me to reframe my thoughts in to wanting to feel better rather than wanting it out. I have an appt on Friday and in the meantime tried taking some Prilosec, which offered me enough relief that I could be productive. I am sleeping propped up because it seems that if I don't I wake up with a horrible taste in my mouth which I'm guessing is some sort of stomach acid. I am on pureed foods. They go down ok. The Water getting stuck was earlier in my post op and when I went to the Dr. then he did remove some Fluid from the band. I was relieved that I was able to drink Water to hydrate myself but then came the heartburn and such that I mentioned. I was trying every over the counter remedy possible and nothing provided any relief until today. At least today it was manageable. I had a long cry last night after posting that thread. The situtation is probably intensified for me because my husband has not been terribly sympathetic. His attitude comes across as "well you did this to yourself, so you can't complain." To his credit though he offered to go to the drugstore at midnight if I needed any thing.

Thanks Again.

Hang in there! Feeling better is right around the corner...don't give up now. Picture yourself running a marathon and you want to quit and we are all chanting your name to get to the next mile marker...you can do it! As hard as it is to do, try focusing on the reasons why you chose the band. All those reasons are still valid. You are having a bumpy start and it WILL get better. Did you have a hernia repair with your surgery? So many of us have them...just curious if one was done. If you didn't have one...maybe you need that??? I had a lot of indigestion prior to surgery, had a hernia repair and have not had any more trouble with it (of course I'm not eating the volumes of food I used to eat either!) Best of luck!

HiJen90808 I have the same issues with my husband I feel like he has the attitude like I chose to do those so wahtever the consequesnces they are on me. I hate that he is not more supportive. He has said things like he does support me but I just dont feel it..thank God we all have each other PS Of course my husband has never has had a weight problem or any kind of an addiction to undertstand food issues.

The horrible taste in your mouth is most likely a good sign believe it or not. If you are buring fat and Protein instead of carbs, your body is in a state of strong ketosis. That means your kidneys are giving off acetone as a byproduct of fat burning. It's gross and I still have it almost daily 4 weeks post op, but I am down 14 pounds as well.

Sorry about the unsupportive husband. As payback when you are a skinny hot looking woman, go shopping and spend thousands on new clothes and give him the receipts!

Melissa

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
