When do you actually start to feel the 'fills'?

Recommended Posts

:confused:I am just wondering how the fills work. I was banded on July 21st, had my first fill 6 weeks later and then another a month later....I had my 3rd fill yesterday so now I have 4 cc's in a 11 cc band. Can I just tell you that I can still eat whatever I want...nothing gets stuck, nothing hurts, not throwing up, nothing. When you get filled, do you feel that fill right away or does it take a few days to 'settle'? I feel as if the band is just not tight enough but the doctor thinks I should be feeling something.....I didn't lose any weight last time around so now I am starting to worry....Any help would be much appreciated!!!!!

It took me 3 fills to feel restriction. I felt it right away but I have read on here of people feeling a fill a week later. Since you don't have restriction, I would call and see if you can get back in sooner rather than later. Good luck!

I wonder how they decide what amount to give a person for their fills...what is it really based on? My doctor made it seem like 4cc's was a large amount...now I feel like a freak that I don't feel much of anything.

Hi CaraRose! I am so glad to hear that I'm not the only one with this issue...I was banded on 7/28 and i feel the same way as you (not feeling full, not throwing up, no stuck episodes, etc). I am about to schedule another appt for a fill because I get worried that something is wrong or it's not working properly. My doc gave me small in office fil about a week ago but still nothing much. i have had two before then. Seems like the only time i feel like i'm really accomplishing anything is when i'm on liquids for two days after the fill. So far Iv'e lost 25 lbs so trust me we are really in the same boat :-(. If you find out anything please share-hang in there!!!!

Restriction is a person to person thing. One person may feel restriction with 4cc's in a 10cc band while another may not. It's weird, I know. But that's the way it is. I don't really know how much is in my band because I don't think my doc was really getting the saline in the first couple of fills. But, who knows. Anyway, I didn't start to feel real restriction until about my 5th fill. I thought I was at my sweet spot about my 6th fill but it wasn't until my 7th fill that I KNEW I was at my sweet spot. I was banded in June 2009 and I got that 7th fill in April 2010. So, you see, depending on your body and how aggressive your doc is with the fills, you are not there until you are there. My doc told me that I should probably be at my sweet spot by my 3rd fill -- didn't happen.

Keep getting your fills and let the swelling go down after each fill before you decide whether you are too tight or too loose.

All the best to you on your journey.

~Fran

My first fill took me to 4 CC's. It was awesome! I had great restriction for about 2 weeks then my restriction starting going away. Last week I got 1 more cc to bring me to 5 cc's. I'm starving and I can eat anything. I'm not feeling restriction at all:(

Surgery 7/20/2010

4 fills later 6 cc's in a 10 cc band.

I have a delay of about 5 days from fill till I react. I also don't always face restriction. It's totally hit or miss for me. Some days I have good restriction and if I don't do things perfectly Imight get stuck. Other days I don't even really have to chew and nothing will happen. Guessing that I still have not achieved my sweet spot.

Never wish for sticking. I did. I needed to know that the band was working. Sticking SUCKS. It is rather scary and uncomfortable. I wanted it so badly that I went through about 8 episodes in a short period of time.

I was banded on 7/26 and I guess I don't feel so bad...I have had 4 fills, totaling to 7.5 in a 14cc band and I can still eat whatever I please. I do have to chew thoroughly to avoid getting food stuck but I am not full on 4oz. I go back on Friday and I hope this will get me to "the level".

Just got filled today...I have 8.2 cc in 14cc band. I was at 7.6 last time and had started to feel some restriction. I am hoping this one will do the trick. My NP said that average is around 8cc's for the 14cc band. Of course I need to exercise more and stay away from carbs and I would be much more successful!

Just had my first fill last Thursday and I felt it immediately. But then again I have a 4cc band with 3cc in it..I have noticed that the restriction has felt more tighter as the week went on. it is different person to person band to band.

Thank you all so much! I am not wishing to get things stuck, I am just wanting to feel the full level much sooner than I am feeling it now! Hopefully I will feel it in the next few days! I appreciate all of your comments!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
