Do you measure your food? If so... how much do you eat in a sitting?

One (two?) Optifast shakes a day and bowls of lettuce with mustard? I'm sorry but even according to Optifast standards, that is not a nutritionally sound diet. I rarely comment on how people choose to lose their weight but I agree with a previous poster who said this sounds almost anorexic and hope others don't use this as an example of how they should be eating.

You did say something that has me puzzled. You said you this is all you can eat before you get 'unfilled'. So does this mean you deliberately get filled too much so this is all you can eat and then get unfilled so you can eat more? :smile2:

Sorry, but I did mention that I snack on celery throughout the day :blushing: This is so I'm never hungry and my metabolism won't be effected.

and no. My first fill was a few days ago and as it's my first fill, the chances that it's not going to be exactly right is high. I have an appointment soon to correct that. It was not deliberate

Edit: I also want to mention that all of this stuff has been approved by my doctor, nutritionist, surgeon and physiotherrapist.

I have schuermann's disease, which effects my spine. The place I was heading before was slowly making my spine more and more deformed and making it harder to stand up right. Since I've had my band I don't have problems walking anymore and I rarely get back pain now :-)

Edit #2: Optifast also says that after a number of weeks you can switch one of your shakes out with a light salad...I figure I'd use different types of lettuces because leafy greens contain the Vitamin I was once lacking :-)

There's no problem with that

No, Elfiepoo she said she just got her first fill a couple of days ago..My question is how was wrenbird eating before that? When I had my first fill my eating was very restricted the first week also, but then it got back to normal. If you are still eating like that after about a week I'd say you are too tight which means your weight loss will stall. Hopefully you will gain some of that appetite back though. Good Luck.

Wrenbird no need to be offended.

We were only going by what you said in your first post where you clearly said that you don't measure your food because all you eat is a bowl of lettuce and some whole grain mustard and then later you eat a stick of celery or an Optifast shake.

What you said there is clearly not enough food for most people and is clearly not a healthy way of eating for most but as you said your Dr. (:blushing:) has approved your way of eating so if you and he like it that's all that matters.

I'm not offended by what you guys said...It was more a mixture of this and some other things in another thread that a certain individual said. I don't think they realised it though.

I don't measure my food because 2/3 of it's already done for me :-) I drink Optifast and snack on celery and different types of lettuces...I mean...Do I really have to weigh a big bowl of lettuce and snacking celery? They're not the part of the diet that contains Protein, so I'm not really sure why I'd bother.

It's just like a salad except I prefer just to have it by itself because it tastes better with mustard and all of the other crap takes too long to prepare and I enjoy it just with 4 different types of lettuces instead lol.

I can see where I'd look a little silly saying that all I eat is Protein shakes, celery and lettuce, but I'm not torurting myself, I really do enjoy it! I don't get hungry thorughout the day and I'm getting good nutrients with Optifast! I ate a can of mustard chicken yesterday...It got stuck...I ended up just sucking on it and spitting it out. I'm definately not ready for chunks of meat yet.

I'm not sure if you've noticed but I really really love mustard :blushing: Mustard is my favourite and I could eat it on anythingggg. I just chose different kinds of lettuces because they contain the Vitamin I was once lacking (assuming I'm no longer lacking it, but am still at risk).

I was eating a can of mustard chicken everyday with the lettuce and about a week before my fill I was hardly on Optifast - I'm back on Optifast because it has nutrients in it that I need now that I can't eat meat.< /p>

That's good. I'm glad you were not offended.

I did read that you LOVE Mustard, continue to enjoy it.

In the meantime this silliness has overtaken Jessica's thread so I'm out and won't be back.

Sorry for the hijack Jessica.

I'm sorry if you got offended. I just got a little concerned with the way you were talking about eating. As long as all your doctors approve of this way of eating, then go about it and eat what you're eating.

I don't think I've ever known anyone to love mustard as much as you, that's cool. Don't worry , you didn't hijack my post. lol.

I was just seeing who really did or did not measure their food. I think that's why I'm struggling in this weightloss. I feel like I'm overeating and my surgeon says that my band is tight enough.

No no <3

You didn't offend me hehe. It was someone else who has posted here and in another thread, but I don't think they meant to.

But yeah, I know what you mean...People read that I eat celery and lettuce and freak out...It's better than eating full fat custard though, which is the only other stuff I have in my fridge that I could probably eat at the moment. :blushing:

Wholegrain mustard's my favourite :-)

I like the homebrand one, but I recently bought one that looks like it has mayo in it. It tastes realllly good but I don't think it's particuarly healthy.

I put it on my salads instead of dressing.

I also like the hot English one, I like to put a bit of that on a ham sanwich. I can't eat ham or sanwiches at the moment though, so I'm sticking with the tasty kind.

I wanna try that yellow mild kind that they put on New York hotdogs. I wonder if I could buy it online. :blushing:

Edit: Sorry for highjacking your thread.

I used to think I didn't need to measure my food because I knew what what 1/2 cup or 1/4 cup looked like after dieting for 40 years. Then I got a bit anal one day and measured my food. Guess I'd forgotten how small 1/4 cup was. :huh2:

So now I measure everything unless I'm eating out, which I rarely do anymore.

Question...just curious as to how your surgeon has determined that your band is 'tight enough'? If you are still hungry and still able to eat to excess at a meal (20-30 minute period), then you should be getting fills...and that is according to band literature.

I measure my food down to teaspoons; crazy. I eat no more than a cup of food at a time.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
