Surgery date November 10th... Anyone else?

Recommended Posts

My surgery is also scheduled for November 10. My doctor only has me do the liquid diet for 24 hours prior to surgery, and then an all clear liquid diet the next 7 days. I have really cut back on carbs and caffeine. I am more concerned about losoing coffee and diet coke . This blog business is all new to me, but I would love to connect with those having surgery on the same date/month.

Wow you have a pretty easy pre-op diet! I started mine yesterday... doing okay so far but it's been hard not snacking. Was hungriest yesterday at dinner but I'm sure with time it will get easier.

Good luck to you... November 10th is not far away!

Hello November 10th bandsters! :sneaky:

Just wanted to check in and see how everyone is doing on their pre-op diet (if you started yet). I started mine on Monday so I'm on my 4th day... I'm doing 3 slim fast low carb shakes during the day and 1 meal at dinner time. (trying my best to make sure its a semi healthy dinner) I'm usually very hungry when i get home but once i eat a few bites I feel okay. Have been getting headaches and some weakness but this is because i'm used to eating way more food. For the most part I'm doing okay on it.

Let me know how you guys are doing so far!!

I, too, am having surgery on Nov 10. I am on day two of a two week pre op diet. The Protein Drinks are awful, and I having serious caffeine withdrawal headaches. Hopefully, it will all be worth it. :sneaky:

Hi again Sha!

Glad you are hanging in there! My pre-op diet is getting easier, on day 8 now. I have found heaven in buying those low fat cottage cheese pack from Knudsen, they have a little fruit on one side and you mix it in, delish! Other than that it is Protein drinks (muscle milk light), and lots of fluids, minimal juices.

Tough, but I am down about 23lbs so it's worth it.

See ya,

FBS

Wow! Everyone is November 10.

Mine is scheduled for November 8. My pre-op diet only consists of liquids the day before the surgery. BUt, they tell me that they'd like me to lose 12 pounds if possible before the surgery date and that I am supposed to follow a "high-Protein diet" formulated by my doctor. They said with this Protein diet, I will drop weight fast. The surgeon told me that if I don't lose 12 lbs, he's not going to make me go home and cancel the surgery, but it is in my best interest to lose as much as I can. I am going to watch myself a little closer the rest of this week and next Monday, I am going to work hard core on my Proteins and fluids until it gets to surgery day. I also need to wean myself off of soda (caffeine).

Will be fun to chat with other people that have surgery the same time as I am!

I've been having a hard time cutting back the caffeine too. I love diet coke... always have to have one... I have been able to cut it back during lunch (not good with slim fast) but still having with dinner. The headaches are not fun but I know i will eventually have to give them up... They aren't good for us anyway!

My doctor is asking that I lose 10 pounds prior to surgery... makes the liver shrink some and makes the surgery easier.. but like your doctor i don't think mine would send me back home if I don't. I'm trying my best since i know I will feel better about going into surgery when i know I've prepared my body for it.

Good luck to you and keep us posted on how your doing with the prep!! :sneaky:

Day 8 of 21 of my pre op diet (although its day 6 of the "no cheat" version) and its slowly getting better. I live off of sugar free Jello and low sodium chicken brother. I was told that I can have "diet" juices and drinks, but Im really apalled at how few stores have diet juice. I had to go to 5 different stores (including a grocery store, a target, and 3 wal marts) before finding diet v8 splash. Needless to say I bought 4 gallon bottles (always gotta be prepared )

But our day is drawing closer my fellow 11/10/10 bandsters. Not long before we start our new lives!

so I know Ive only been on my liquid diet for 9 days, but IM still scared that I wont lose the 15 lbs that I need to have the surgery. I know they said if I didnt lose quite 15 it was okay, but I dont want to be that person. It sucks too because our scales are different, so Im not sure when to worry. I was 283 on their scale (mine 280) but I was weighing without clothes on at home. Now Im weighing with clothes on and am 275. ARGH! I dont know whether i should deduct 3 lbs or not. Maybe I should go back to weighing naked and taking off the 3lbs. This is causing me such undo stress!

Don't be so worried about it. If it was easy to lose weight we wouldn't be here. I think that you should just try your best and not worry so much about what's on the scale. Even if you lose 5 pounds it still makes a difference in shrinking your liver and helps for an easier surgery. I think that you should follow your diet... don't weigh yourself... and wait for the doctor office to weigh you. By weighing yourself at home and not seeing what you want to see could discourage you. By the way if you are stressed do you know its impossible to lose weight?? Quit stressing!!

Take care and keep us posted!

Well, everyone. I am down 5 pounds since Tuesday! How'd I do it you may ask? I HAVE PNEUMONIA. That's right, pneumonia. I haven't been eating much of anything, but trying to drink to keep hydrated. My local MD ALMOST put me in the hospital today, but he let me go with a shot of Rocephin and z-pak. If my fevers don't break by Monday, I will be in the hospital.

He wants to get me better before the 8th (my surgery day) otherwise they probably won't do the surgery. As of current, my temp is 102 F. Nice, huh? Grrrrr.....

Awww so sorry to hear that. You defiantly don't want to put your body through a surgery if you are not 100%!

Get lots of rest and hopefully you will get better.

Keep us posted!

Hi guys!

Just checking in with everyone to see how they have been. I know most of us are on pre op diets now, or will be soon as Monday is the first! Hard to believe that we will be banded in 11 short days!

I hope that everyone holds up through Halloween, and fights the urge to raid the candy bowl tomorrow.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
