how soon for mushy foods?

Recommended Posts

Hi All. I haven't posted much at all and am newly banded, 3 days post op. I was wondering what was the earliest someone has started mushy foods?

Thanks !;)

Hi, Holly!

I read about one person who ate on the way home from the surgery. Not usually your best move. And certainly an historical cause of bands moving out of their proper placement into dangerous locations.

Anyway, MOST doctors want us on liquids (clear and then full) for about two weeks...sometimes more, sometimes less. If you think you might be starving, it is likely because you aren't getting enough Protein. There are many sources, from powders and canned drinks to Jamba juice (my favorite.) Do you live near any juice places?

How about a little soft-boiled egg yolk? Many things can BECOME liquids, courtesy of a blender of food processor and a little juice or Water or milk. (This is a post-op diet, don't stay on these foods after the healing process.)

What are you eating now?

Stick to it...you'll be fine. I was banded 4 days ago, and I am already BORED of the clear liquid.....I had smooth yogart and a Protein Shake this morning....so...so....not bad!!!

But remember...its only 3-4 weeks of our life!!!! Keep telling yourself that!!!

i was banded on the 18th and my doctor gave me the green light for mushies on Friday because i was hungry already. they said that some people with lower BMI's get hungrier faster, and also that my swelling has just gone down faster.

i was hungry an hour after eating a whole can of pureed great northern Beans. now that i am eating mushees i am never hungry. i only eat because i know it is time to do so.

Hang in there Holly :boink:

I was day three, I was in hospital, and because I was a veggie I only had this urine looking vegetable clear "broth" or ummm apple juice. I asked my surgeon and I started on sloppy porridge and some lentil Soup -that helped me so much.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
