Potential Lap Bander

Recommended Posts

Hi

I am new to this forum and am scheduled to attend my first seminar in Baltimore with Dr. Singh's office at St. Agnes on Monday 12/19.

I am interested in the banding and thought this forum would be one of the best places to get sincere information.

Can you give me an idea as to what to expect after this first meeting?

I have Carefirst Blue Choice health care insurance, anyone have expereince with them?

My BMI is 35.8 but I have some medical issues.

Thanks for any help and information.

You can use the search option at the top of the screen and type in specific topics that have been addressed here before by others. Like the insurance question, you can even type in the name of your insurance company and if anyone has posted anything about them, it should come up.

Hope this is helpful to you, Jack, as always, is right about there being a ton of information out there. Good luck with your research and keep us posted as to your decision.

Cindy

Hello and Welcome!

I too am in the beginning stages of fetting my band. I attended a seminar last week with Dr. Maozzez, and have a consultation with him on Jan 28th. I also have a consult scheduled with Mr. Schweitzer in B-More in Feb. ....I need to make a choice soon as to which one I will choose.

Anywho...My understanding is that you will then get more info as to what tests etc you need to have. If you have not done so already, call you insurance nad ask them what they specifically require prior to approval. My insurance MDIPA needs a letter from PCP stating that the surgery is medically necessary, proof I don't smoke, proof of BMI, 6 month Dr. supervised diet (documented).

As the others said there is tons of infor on this board...keep looking and ask away...we will all try to help you on your journey.

Cristina

Hi Charlotte congratualtions on your decision and good luck with the process. I have Bluechoice and I had no problems. My doctor, Moazzazz's office handled it all and got me approved right away.

Fair Oaks hospital has a coordinator who can schedule all of your appointments at the hospital. The can all be taken care of in 1 or 2 visits except the sleep study which is another location. That study can be 3 or 4 visits(consult, sleep study, consult, possibly another sleep study with cpap machine) that can be done in about 2 months. Also your psychiatric consult.

As far as the 6 month diet, I'm sure your primary care doctore can provide some documetation on that.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
