Burping and Sighing

Recommended Posts

Does burping or sighing mean I am full. I had surgery 9/8 and my first fill 11/17 of 1.5 cc. I dont feel any restriction unless i dont know how it feel. At first after 3 days of liquids and mushy I would sigh after eating, didnt know if it was because i was tired of counting up to 30 while i ate. Now i burp after eating so I stop eating. just wanted to know if this was a sign of being full.

Sighing is a very common "soft stop" sign that you have had enough. I guess burping could be, as well, although a lot of bandsters burp waaaay more after being banded than ever before.

Some people have a little sneeze, some people have a little hiccup. It's good that you're recognizing your soft stop early!

I burp and have LEARNED to stop! Oh yes, I've eaten another bite or two, after the burp, but have regretted it. Funny, this is the first I've hear about the "sigh." We were banded the same day!

I used to get the "sigh" preband and I would keep eating even though I knew I was full. That doesn't happen anymore. When I have that sigh, I stop. The burping gives me the illusion of having more room so I try to ignore it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
