5 weeks out and confused?!

Recommended Posts

I am 5 weeks out and confused :confused:about what I am supposed to be eating?? My nutritionist says that I should be eating 1 cup of food...so I made turkey chili and ate a cup of it...but tonight I had a salmon burger (well actually 2) b/c when I weighed it, it equaled 8oz. which is a cup...same with my chicken breats and hummus at lunch...

I haven't really been eating veggies or fruit b/c I am totally consumed with eating protein....please help!!

Am i doing this right? or should I be eating 3 oz. of chicken (or protein) and then 5 oz of veggies or something?? i'm stuck on this 1c. of food thing..but eating mostly Protein.

then I get freaked out b/c how many ounces is our stomach supposed to be holding? can it really hold 8oz.? I haven't had a fill yet, at about 6-7 weeks I will, but most days I am not hungry...?????

I've lost 32 pounds in 5 weeks and am happy but am very fearful that I am doing something wrong!!

any help would be appreciated:) PLEASE:smile:

my nutritionist told me in our nutrition class that u should be eating 1/4 C veggies 1/4 C starch and the rest should be protien. hope that helps, but I would also call your nutritionist to clarify! you shouldnt be only eating protien.

My instructions from the Nut. were 3 oz Protein and 1/4 veg, 1/4 starch. When I went for my first fill one of the questions that I was asked was can I eat more than 5 oz. Which I totally can. I have to measure and then only put the appropriate amount on my plate so I dont' over eat. I said well I was told to have 3oz of Protein and veggies so yes.

One thing I like for lunch is 3 oz chicken eaten with a Romain Lettuce leafs. I usually use 3 leafs and make sandwiches out of each one with the chicken, laughing cow cheese (one individual packet divided into 3), mustard, tomato). I figure that's getting me protein, dairy, and veggies.

Another lunch favorite is 3 oz chicken breast, salsa, mrs dash chicken seasoning, low fat cheddar cheese on top microwave till hot.

First of all, 8 Oz weighed isn't always going to be 8 Fluid oz or 1 cup so be careful. Think about 8 oz of cotton candy and an 8 oz rock. Two totally different amounts in volume.

A serving of Protein is usually 3 ounces; if diced and measured, that often comes to about a cup, but of course there is variance. (I have a set of Mario Batali measuring bowls--you can get them from Entertaining at Home or Target online--that are handy; I eat from them rather than measure with them.)

You can't convert "a cup" to 8 ounces when talking about solids. You have to weigh or measure.

My doctor's guidelines had me focusing on Protein at 5 weeks; a 3 ounce serving was recommended. (Now it's 3-5 ounces; I usually get full on just under 3.) A couple of weeks later, nonstarchy veggies were added. A bit later, fruit.

All doctors/nutritionists/dietitians seem to have different recommendations; mine does not advocate reintroducing starches/grains until 75% of excess body weight is lost.

ETA: Honk's "sandwiches" are one of my favorite lunches. A couple of romaine leaves, each with an ounce of protein (turkey, chicken, fish, whatever...) and a half ounce of cheese.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
