The first week for me was outta the question! I slowly was able to sleep in bed and on my side 2 and half weeks post-op. there is still alittle dicomfort but its feels great to be sleeping normal again! I know this point in time in your post-op is hard to even move without hurting. Don't worry, it will happen soon! Just needs a littel more time to heal. *Hugs*

I was able to sleep on my side again on the 4th night post-op. (It felt like much longer than that, though. lol)

I'm not a back sleeper, at all, so sleeping elevated on my back was very, very hard for me.

Have you tried in the last day or two to lay on your side? I'd give it a try daily to see how you do.

Hang in there. It does get better.

I'm on my 5th night.

From about the 3rd night I shaped a doona under the right hand side of my stomach and then wrapped it around my back and held it there while I slept - this helped. I also have all of my stab marks on the left hand side so I was lucky. I was having some serious back pain and still am - I hope it's just gas stuck there from surgery.

I still have problems sleeping on my side or even sleeping flat.

Ok well thanks everyone! I am going to try my left side ( my port is on the right) tonight. I am so sick of sleeping in a chair! Maybe I am just freaked out because I am only 4 days post op but I feel like a train wreck. I can't even begin to imagine my life going back to normal. The gas is still bad

I slept in my bed the first night. I was able to lay on my stomach just fine and my right side. It was almost 5 days before I could get comfy on my left side though.

I just had my surgery on the 29th so I'm 2 days post op. I have had to sleep on my back and it's been killer trying to sit up. Today, I tried taking a nap on my side and it was irritating and sore so I went back to my back. Yesterday I thought it would never get better, but already I'm less sore. I know my experience is different, but at least you know it does get better.

I could lie in bed but on an incline. After a few days could lie on right side with no discomfort. Left side (which is my preferred side and where the port is) took about two weeks. To roll over I had to hold tightly to the port area and roll.

I had surgery in the morning and was able to get onto my side and lie that way for short periods by that night - I was SO sick of lying on my back.

I went home to sleep in bed, I didnt need a recliner or anything. It took a few nights to be able to easily and comfortably lie on my side, it hurt a bit like my stomach was hanging unsupported in there.

I was able to sleep in bed on my 2nd night, but getting up and lying down was murder, i would scream quietly under my breath, and tried to put off getting up til i absolutely had to pee! After about 5 or 6 days it got better, also i was able to sleep on my right side that night, it was extremely uncomfortable but i cannot sleep on my back for more than an hour. Now i sleep on my stomach and my side as usual, slight discomfort getting to th right position, but it's all good now.

WOW. I'm so glad I saw this thread!! I am pre-op (but I just got a tentative date of 12/20/10) and with all the questions I've been thinking about post-surgery, I didn't even think about how the heck am I gonna sleep! lol. I am NOT a back sleeper so this will be difficult for me. I had trouble acheiving REM sleep during my sleep study because of that.

So I've seen a few posts that refer to sleeping in "bed" after a couple days. So where were you sleeping if you weren't sleeping in bed? I hate sleeping in my recliner. lol

Wow, how weird. I have to sleep on my box or it isn't comfy. I put a pillow on the right side and put all the pressure/weight on the surgical area. Go figure~ The only way I can sleep. Everyone is different for sure.

ha!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
