Experienced Bandsters! HELP!

Recommended Posts

Do you need to be getting stuck and throwing up to consider your band too tight???

I got a third fill a week ago Wednesday, and I haven't thrown up or gotten stuck on anything...but I can barely eat or drink. I'm at 6.2cc in a 10cc band.

I'm barely consuming 600 calories a day since I get full SOOOOO quick. I was home yesterday with a sick kid and by 8pm at night, I realized I hadn't used the facilities since the early morning!! I'm worried about becoming dehydrated.

Any advice?? Is this healthy?? I mean, it's great that I'm not hungry and I'm full so quickly (ie, the band is FINALLY working!!), but I don't want to be doing damage at the same time. KWIM?!

PS- I do go in next Wed for a checkup.

Just be sure when you do eat, you get plenty of Protein, and ALWAYS drink plenty of Water. Have a glass handy and take a sip as often as possible. I had surgery this past march and I still ALWAYS have a glass of liquid (in my case Crystal Lite tea) right by my side. Good luck on your journey.

Sounds like you may be a bit too tight. It shouldn't be uncomfortable to eat or drink. You are right to be worried about dehydration. I have been too tight and hesitated to go in for an unfill. I suffered needlessly. When I finally went in, I still had restriciton after the unfill. You may want to call Mon. morning and see if they can squeeze you in sooner, tell them it's an emergency. Until then, try to get as much Water in as possible. Hope you feel better soon.

No, you don't have to be throwing up to be too tight. Any great difficulty eating/drinking could be considered too tight.

I agree with the other posters who say to call you doctor on Monday and ask about coming in for a possible unfill. They don't have to take alot out. A fraction will probably do the trick.

You need to make sure you stay hydrated...I carry a bottle of Water with me everywhere. I certainly agree with the above posters who recommend that you call your Dr's office - and let them know what is happening.

I know the feeling that you are happy the band is working, but you need to make sure you are eating enough to sustain your body!

Hang in there!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
