Drinking during meals

Recommended Posts

Lol, thank you for responding, I honestly knew the answer probably wasn't going to sway the way I wanted it to.

I really need to start to get a handle on this then so it's not such a shock to me when I NEED to be complying with the no-gulping rules. :w00t:

It's taken 2 1/2 years for me to reach the elusive 'sweet spot', so dont worry too soon. I was able to drink pretty good until this last fill. Enjoy while you can!

This is going to be the hardest thing for me to get accustomed to. I loveeee to have liquid at a meal...milk...tea..soda..water...it doesn't matter.

My surgery is tentatively scheduled for the 23 Nov so I really need to get a handle on not drinking at meals.

I also have a desk job and constantly have Water at my desk gulping it down.

Those of you who are banded...are you able to drink throughout the day without having issues? I don't have all of my thyroid so I'm constantly thirsty for some reason so I always have a drink on me.

I have a desk job, too. I have Water next to me at all times. I can drink as fast as I always could, with the exception of during or just after a meal. If I drink too quickly then, it will all come up.

I don't have the prohibition against drinking with meals that most have, my doctor gave permission to have a bit of liquid with my meals. Honestly, I have tried eating with and without drinks, and I can't tell a difference in my satiety level. Your mileage and doctor's orders may vary.

But even so, you should be able to drink after you reach restriction. If you don't feel you are able to drink enough, you need to talk to your doctor about it. As a previous poster said, she has had to slow down her drinks to sips due to her restriciton level--but she should still be getting enough to feel hydrated and satisfied (you can, right, StrangeDz?).

It is all a learning experience!

I was doing pretty good with not drinking during meals and waiting a 1/2 hours afterwards. ...but, I told the lady that does my fills that I may take a sip or two if I felt like I really needed it and she said it was okay to drink with a meal. So, I have been drinking some more with meals, but when I do, I do not let myself eat more. I still stick to the amount of food I've measured out. I am however trying to get back to not drinking during meals.

Pre-surgery I always had a drink with meals. When out at a restaurant I esp. needed to have a drink. I don't know if it was because I ate to fast or the food was to salty; but I was always dying of thirst. Now I really don't miss drinking with meals. The only time I have ever REALLY wanted something to drink was at a party when my best Protein choice was Greek sausage which was really salty.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
