Pregnancy after Surgery..

Recommended Posts

I need some opinions here...

I am almost 28, married and have a 14 month old daughter. I have been overweight my entire life (from the time I was 8 or so). I was over 300lbs when I got pregnant.

I have lost right at 50lbs in a little over 4 months. I am scared to death of becoming pregnant again. I know that fertility often increases as our weight decreases. I have been on the pill since about 6 weeks postpartum and was on it a long time before that.

I had a horrible time with postpartum depression starting before I even left the hospital I have sought treatment and continue to be on antidepressants that I am unable to get off of because of withdrawal symptoms. I will spare the details of my PPD, but it was horrible and I never want to go through it again.

I asked my ob/gyn (same person who delivered DD) to tie my tubes at 6 weeks postpartum and again 7 months later at my annual exam. She told me to wait 6 months and we can discuss then, she only offered me the IUD (which I don't want) or another prescription for the pill. Its been over 6 months and that doctor has moved out of state.

My question is 2 folds.

Does anyone know an OB/GYN in the DFW area that will listen to me about MY wishes instead of looking at the fact I am 28, with 1 kid and a history of PPD??

Has anyone gotten pregnant on the pill after having Lap Band and losing weight??

Thanks!

Carrie, i have a wonderful obgyn at Presby Dallas I will get his phone number tomorrow and get it to you. It is Gregory Chapman. I LOVE him!! He did my hysteroctomy and was so sweet about the entire thing. Not a surg by choice but rather by necessity!!

Any way I have SEVERAL friends who use him and we all adore him!!

He has a wife and told me she makes sure he understands what it is like to go through female things...lol

Thanks, I spoke with his nurse and she said that he would have no problem speaking with me and they could get me in probably next week that their system as down.

I spoke with one of the doctors that took the place of the doctor who moved and he wanted me to wait until I was over 30. :)

I'll keep you posted.

One word: vasectomy

Not to get all feminist on you, but our bodies go through enough with pregnancy. Time for hubby to get a little snip snip. :)

LOL

I am interested in Essure. It's done w/o surgery. My hubby isn't exactly supportive of me not wanting more kids so no vasectomy.

I think 30 years is the standard point in which Ob/Gyn like you to wait. Although, I'm sure with the right reasons and right doctor, that you can convince one earlier. Since you're almost 28, it's pretty close.

In the meantime, birth control pills + foam + condom!!!! If you are 100% sure go for it! My husband had a vasectomy, with minimal discomfort, and it's a great way to go. Shawn

Ahh... :)

If hubby wants more kids that could be why they aren't supporting your decision to get your tubes tied (in addition to your age of course). I went through a period last year (before hubby's vasectomy) where I was deathly afraid of pregnancy, so I know what you're going through. I had a scare and cried for two weeks until my period came.

I only had the baby blues for a few weeks after my two kids, and that was so awful. I can't imagine what full on PPD would be like. There's always adoption if he wants another. I'm looking at my friends beautiful adopted toddler right now. He is the spitting image of Blair Underwood. Wonder if he's his love child, lol.

Good luck with the new doctor!

Carrie,

I have come to not trust any form of birth control. My first child was "planned." With the other three I have a birth control pill baby, an IUD baby and a condom baby. The last was after the band surgery. I had a tubal after the last one was born. With my luck I'll still become pregnant somehow. I know some people really want to have children but I have definitely reached my limit. Good luck! :)

Tell hubby it's like this... It's probably under $500 and about half hour for him to get a vasectomy in the doc's office, or it could be thousands upon thousands for a pregnancy and subsequent birth and cost of raising a child. If you're both not interested in that happening, then why take the chance? Just my 2 cents..

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
