I had my lapband surgery on Tuesday the 21st of September and I dont know what has come over me but, I was talking to my husband about how i am feeling depressed and I couldnt stop crying. Its only been a few days since my surgery but, I just keep thinking about how I wont be able to eat a whole bunch at a time and its crazy to cry about that. Maybe I am emotional because I am sick of Protein Drinks and sugar free popsicles who knows. Since my last appt with my surgeon on Sept 9th I have lost 11 pounds and 4 pounds since Tuesday so thats something to be happy about. Am I alone in being emotional after surgery?

Melissa

First things first congratulations! Everyone reacts differently to post op. I think your reactions are healthy as long as you don't stay on that track. You are grieving the loss of a life style (true not a very healthy one, but none the less) that you are comfortable with and now you are onto a journey, challenge and a process of unknown proportions! Don't worry about the smaller portions as you start this new life, you will see that it all fits in together. Psychologically we all go through various degrees that we have to adapt to. For me it was smaller plates and bowls with them my portions aren't so small and because I am full...I don't miss those giant portions of food. Wishing you lots of luck!

I had surgery on 9/20 & I know this is going to sound very strange, but I was very emotional & crying often until yesterday (& I am not an emotional person!) Today I am a little better but I was angry repeatedly (all around times when my family was eating & I was sipping V8 & beef broth mixed.)

I think it's a combination of breaking bad eating habits & also only getting liquids. I also attribute it to whatever pain meds were still in my system from the hospital!

No your not alone in feeling emotional after surgery I felt the same way too. I just had my lap-band surgery 9/22/10. Being home that night I remember crying I thought to myself what did I do? Its hard but we can do we just stay positive

I had many "WHAT DID I JUST DO?!?!" moments. I think what you are feeling is so normal...I cried a lot after surgery, as well. My theory is that you are tired of Protein Shakes, probably still a little uncomfortable, and worried you will never get that food high again. That is exactly what I felt for at least a week after surgery. Now, I am a month out, and on full solids and I can see that it is the best thing I have ever done for myself. You will get through this part. It isn't easy, but it can be done.

Melissa,

I understand exactly how you feel. Keep in mind your body just went through the trauma of surgery, you are on restricted amount of calories and although this will be a tough journey, you did it for a reason. For a better quality of life.

I understand your mourning of food, I was very conscious of EVERYTHING I ate up to my last meal, and thought about how I would never be able to eat this again. Then reality kicked in, of course I will be able to eat this again, just in much smaller portions.

Just think of how happy and healthy you will be with your decision. This is a commitment to yourself, you can do it!

No it's normal what you're feelin. I had meltdown night after surgery crying and looking for how much it would cost to get band out. If your female it messes with your hormones as well. Rapid weight loss, trauma of surgery etc. I'm 9 days post op and a psychotherapist so go figure! Nobody prep me that there can be emotional let down shortly after surgery. I wanted to tell by doc when. See Himmler next week they need to mention this in semi ar or post op take home pack

Hi Melissa.

We had surgery on the same day and although I'm not emotional, I do think about the foods I love and how my relationship with them has to change. I just keep reminding myself that I can eat them again. It may be after the liquids for some and for others after I reach goal, but I will (if my band allows) have them again.....just in moderation.

Hang in there. I'm hopeful things will work out just fine in the end.....for both of us.

Hang in there. It should pass. Like everyone else said here there is an emotional letdown. Whether it is the surgery itself or the mourning of our dear friend food, or a combination of both, there is def a "crash" period. If it does not subside, you MUST mention it to the doctor.

Stay focused! Throw a small scoop of FF SF chocolate pudding mix in the shakes. It kills the taste and is really yummy! I got this tip from BETSY on here! Delish!

Congrats so far! I'm proud of you!

And I remember asking myself "why did Ido this" but really it's ok to be sad and upset. You are ending a long-term relationship.... with food. And it's sad and scary. Please stay strong and alot of ppl are here are super encouraging and we'd love to talk you through any problems.

Feel free to message me anytime!

hang in there Melissa, Emotional times after being banded is a normal reaction. Not only for banding but any surgery. You are also mourning the loss of food, your own comfort and your old habits. it is a big change, lifestyle , emotional etc. Hang in there and weather the storm. Just like any addiction there is a withdrawal period etc. You will be fine, there are many great peeps out here to encourage you, advise you and be a shoulder to lean on.

I was banded almost a year ago, It has been quite a journey. Keep a journal of your food, and your emotions and how you feel daily. learn about yourself and learn new ways to conduct your daily life. You may have to make some new friends that will encourage you and stand for you during your journey.

I have ZERO regrets taking this huge step, anyone who has been a skeptic of my choice now admires me since I am living the life I want doing what I have passion for. Never would I have persued my dream if not for losing this weight.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
