Carb withdrawals not so bad!

Recommended Posts

I went in to see my doc for my third fill last tuesday the 21. I had my surgery Aug 9, and lost 13 pounds of which i gained back 3 pounds and was hanging on to it since my third week post op.

My doctor told me that i was not loosing because i was eating carbs, ie. bread and potatoes. So i took his suggestion and stopped the carbs and promptly lost 3 pounds in the last 4 days. I was in shock! Also i have been feeling some restriction finally. I eat till satisfied then i stop. So far all i am eating is chicken, fish, meat and vegies. I am eliminating all high glycemic vegies. I can honestly say that for the first time i am not hungry, and i have to force myself to eat 3 meals a day. This for me is a miracle. I was getting so discouraged after the surgery, i felt i would never get out of bandster hell. I want to encourage every new bandster out there that your time will come soon. I had to get rid of the idea that all i needed was the lap band to loose the weight, without having to do any of the work myself. I now realize that i have to diet and exercise and give up those foods that give me instant gratification.

But you have done the work yourself. Think about it...you weren't losing until *you* stopped eating the carbs. Now you are losing. The band doesn't stop you...you do. The band will let you eat most carbs. Ice cream is a fine example.

Don't sell yourself short. It is your own will power that has made the difference here. :lol:

@ElfiePoo i see you question your band lately.Of course it is your job to make your self stop eating high calories but the band works for you and you work for your self as well.I guess your doctor doesnt help you enough with your frustration and in your shoes i would question my doctor and not my band :smile:

@gloglo high glycemic vegies ? exemples ?

      Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

        As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

        Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
