Anti-Depression NIGHTMARE

Recommended Posts

I've been on amitriptyline for my depression for about 5 years now and I never had any problems until after a fill this last April.

About 15 minutes after taking them, I start to puke violently! Now my band is so tight, it is physically impossible to puke so I dry heave! Its so painful and it makes me cry!

My surgeon swears its not the band because its not getting 'stuck' and my primary doc has been trying all sorts of anti nausea pills to stop the dry heaving. None have helped at all, so after much discussion with my surgeon and doc, we think I may be taking too high a dose now that I've lost 80 pounds and may be overdosing!

I'm slowly decreasing my dosage, but have to use anti nausea suppositories until we can figure this out. I hate suppositories! ...but then who likes 'em, huh?? Sometimes I have to take 2 or 3 to keep myself from getting violently sick.

Lowering the dosage of course, brings on withdrawal from the amiltriptyline and is so hard on me. The withdrawal causes dizziness, drowsiness and lethargy. I am so tired I dont want to do anything! Getting my big butt up every morning just to get to work is an ordeal! Granted, I'm not sad, so it doesnt feel like depression, i'm just so sleepy! They say its my neural transmitters that dont know how to work on their own and it will pass. In the mean time, I dont want exercise. I find it hard to even do simple chores when I get home from work. ugh!

I dread taking my pills at night, but they have been the only med that has actually helped with my depression. I'm just hoping this is the answer and I can get back to my life and this nightmare will be over soon!

Hang on, honey. Withdrawal is a bitch, and though it doesn't last forever, it can feel like it does. I had a dreadful experience with anti-d withdrawal a number of years ago, but I survived, found a better medication, and life is good. It will be for you, too. Believe!

Thanks for your encouragement!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
