need to make decision

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I need some advice. I need to have a hysterectomy done soon. My doctor is letting me decide when I want to have this done as I have been dealing with this problem for some time now. I have been thinking about getting the lap band done first and then getting the hysterectomy done last. The good news is I don't have to be cut on to have the hysterectomy. My dilema is on whether or not I should tell the other doctors about the band and vise versa. Any suggestions on how I should handle this?

Personally, I would have the hysterectomy done first. It sounds like that is medically necessary and the band is something that could wait a month or two if need be. Good luck :rolleyes2:

If you have band first, you will HAVE to tell the other becuase there will be a band in your stomach during surgery.

i agree i had problems with cysts on my overies in 2000 and the doctors wanted me to get a hysterectomy i never did but i was only like 21 at the time i didnt do it but i think its more important to get it done first the band can wait just have your doctor make it a couple monthes after your hysterectomy you will be ok

thanks for your input everyone! I was thinking about doing the band first so that way it would give me time off work to get used to having the band before I go back to work. I don't have a problem with telling the doctors about having the band, I just don't want a bunch of people that are around me everyday to know right yet

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
