Another band slippage

Recommended Posts

I'm sorry to report, that unfortunately, after almost 4 years, my band has slipped. I have not been tested yet, but I know where my band is and I know where it was before. I am 100% positive that it has definitely slipped, no question.

I just want everyone to know, however, that the reason it has slipped is because of a health issue with me that finally landed me in the ER last night. From Thursday night through yesterday evening, I was passing Kidney stones. Not only are they extremely painful, but they also cause severe nausea and vomitting, and I mean severe. I just knew my stomach was coming up through my throat. I couldn't even tolerate Tums, as soon as they went down, up they came. I had nothing to eat from Thursday night until this morning, when I simply had a Protein shake. Too nervous to really eat real food because of the slippage. I am going to stay on liquids until after I see the doctor tomorrow.

Needless to say, this whole situation has me extremely upset. I am hoping that the doctor can simply put my band back where it belongs, although the thought of yet another surgery for me is overwhelming right now. I have already had more than ten surgeries for different things in the last ten years.

I won't tell you that I'm not scared that this has happened. I do know that I have loved my band from day one. I am taking a risk that this may happen again for me, as the kidney stones run in my family big time. Lucky me, had to inherit all the rotten health genes in my family. That's what I get for being first born, LOL. My three younger brothers have no health issues and never had. I don't wish this on them or anyone else, it is just what is.

Thanks for allowing me to share my feelings. I really needed to tell people that understand what this means to me and you all definitely do.

Cindy

Chichigirl, if Jonathan can "unslip", so can you. Get that fill out. If you ever get attacked by the killer kidney stones again, get to the doc quick for a complete unfill.

Stay on the liquids!!! Get unfilled tomorrow, maybe your band will settle back into place. Don't give up yet!!! You may not need surgery to fix it!! Hang in there. Yes, I understand totally how you must be feeling. I would hate hate hate to lose my band. Just don't give up yet, okay? Keep us posted.

Are the stones passed? Yuck and double yuck. Worst pain ever. Sorry. :)

Thank you so much, you guys. I appreciate the support, thoughts and prayers of anyone and everyone. It means the world to me that you guys are all here and I have somewhere to go and 'talk' about my feelings.

Don't worry, I have only had liquids all day, and will not have anything other than liquids. I will not give up, I have come too far and beat too many odds to quit ever. It's not in my nature and I am glad for that.

Thanks again for the kind words, I will let everyone know how things go tomorrow.

You know your own body better than anyone else for sure, but here's hoping that this isn't what you think, or if it is it will go back into place.

You certainly are an inspiration. I was going to start a thread because I was curious the longest that people have had the band. It seems like some run into trouble after a year. 4 Years is awesome and inspirational to me. I haven't yet met anyone that has been banded that long with or without problems.

I hope when you see your dr. he will know exactly what course to take. I read someone's post on here that had a slipped band and it went back into place apparently.

My prayers are with you. Please keep us posted.

Wow, have you reached your goal weight? If so maybe you can keep it off and just continue to eat like a bandster. I'm not an expert but it seems like there would be enough tissue that has formed to almost be like a permanent band on your stomach.

Cindy, I hope you'll let us know what the doctor says once they get a look at your band. My fingers are crossed that nothing serious has happened, and if anything IS wrong an unfill can repair it.

Good luck, and I hope you feel better soon!!!

Well, I was on the phone at 9 am sharp this morning, calling the doctor's office. The doctor will be in surgery all day, figures, but he did talk to me and he doesn't believe it has slipped. He says because I can tolerate liquids, that it may have moved but not slipped completely, sure hope he's right on this one! No one would be happier to be wrong than I am right now.

They are trying to set me up for an upper GI for today and then I will go in tomorrow to see him first thing. Ugggghhhh!!! I just had an upper a couple of months ago and it always makes me gag. The thought of more gagging after what I have been through the last few days is not a happy thought!!!

Dody: Thank you for the kind words and encouragment. Just to let you know and anyone else who is considering the band, this is an unusual circumstance. I have had zero problems with my band from the surgery all the way through until recently. It isn't the bands fault that I got kidney stones and was wretching violently for three days. It was so bad, I'm surprised my band didn't slip into unknown areas, LOL.

Again, for everyone who has responded, thank you so very much for your continued support, well wishes, prayers and everything else you all do for me. It makes going through something like this alot easier to have such understanding and caring people cheer me on.

Oh, also forgot to let everyone know that the CAT scan I had in the ER on Saturday showed the last stone almost completely gone and that there were no more stones in the kidney!!!! YEAH!!!!! Thank God!!!

Sorry to hear about your slip. I also am suffering from a slip. I see my band doctor on the 19th. They removed all my fill and although the radiologist said the band wasn't where it was supposed to be, he didn't think it completely slipped. My band doctor has asked me to get my films so he can see for himself, but the report he sent to my primary doctor was band slippage. I hope he can do something with it since I don't think my insurance will cover another band.

I hope you get some good news!!!

I'm just now seeing this but wanted to offer my support. I wish you the best on this, and am praying that it is not a slip, or that if it has slipped a little, that it will go right back into place for you.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you girl!

Hugs, ~Kelly

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
