How would you measure the discomfort you experienced after you were banded? Either from the surgery itself or the gas pain and other side effects that resulted after wards.

Upon waking up from surgery, the pain was at a 9. Dilauded helped...it knocked me out! I would say the terrible pain lasted from about noon until 5 p.m. and then the pain was managable and down to a 5. Next day the pain was a 3-4.

I'd say pain was no more than a 4. It was difficult to move around sit up and down but not as bad as I thought it would have been.

I chose 1 because there was no 0 option.

I chose 3 simply because of the gas the first day. It was only uncomfortable the first 8 hours. Waking up from surgery my only complaint was I was FREEZING! I walked around the block that evening.

When I woke in recovery, they asked if I had any pain and did I need something for it. I didn't. Never needed anything up to the time I went home. I did fill my pain meds (Vicodin) but never needed to take them. I was back at work the next day but did get tired more quickly so only worked half a day. The day after that I stayed the whole day.

When I woke up from surgery I had some pain, but they told me to stop tensing up. I realized I was tense in my stomach area. When I relaxed it was much better. Then they told me they normally flood the area with Lidocaine, but they didn't on me because I am allergic to Septocaine. I told them before surgery I can have any other 'caine' just not septo, but they opted not to use any. Considering I also had Hiatal Hernia repair, the pain was not bad at all. I took the liquid vicodin that first night, but then remembered I don't like vicodin so didn't take any more.

The left shoulder pain from phrenic nerve pressure lasted for months, so I voted 3 in the poll.

i chose 5. i used the pain meds that were offered to me so the only pain i had was sitting up and then laying back down.

the only major pain i had was waiting too long between the pain meds. i was being released from the hospital and had a 4 hour drive home. i was waiting to ask for my last dose of meds for right before i was leaving.... stupid move on my part.

as long as i stuck to taking the pain meds every 4 hours i was fine...

When I woke in recovery I was asked if I had pain, I told them no. I didnt get pain meds until my 3rd night home, and that was only because I twisted and the port was immediately on fire. So I guess I would have to say 0 for the surgery itself and 3 for the port pain 3 days later. The port pain only lasted 2 nights and it was only at bedtime that I rtook half of a percocet. I was very surprised that I had no pain after surgery, HAPPY to be exact.

I chose 8 because I was in a lot of pain when I woke up from surgery. The first 3 days were quite painful for me. The gas pain was horrible. After the 3rd day it got better and better with each passing day. I used 3/4 of my bottle of liquid Lortab.

I would definitely do it again, in a heartbeat.

I have a very high pain threshold, but was in considerable pain immediately postop. But my rating is UNmedicated.

With medication (which I did use), my level was consistently kept beneath 3, which made walking (the BEST cure of all) easy. And that got me feeling better really fast.

Don't be shy about meds if you need them.

Just by comparison, I've had 2 c-sections, and banding was NOTHING ---really nothing---compared to them.

Still, there was pain. But it was so easily dealt with. And it was very, very short-lived.

My pain right after surgery was btwn a 0-1. I could not believe it !!

I asked for pain meds the 1st night so that I could sleep not for pain. I should have just ask for a sleep med cause i still didn't sleep at all. I just can't sleep in hospitals.

The gas pains were not bad at all either really negligible. I chewed some Gas-X and that resolved that.

So from all the answers I guess that you will have to see for yourself what yours will be. It seems to vary from case to case.

My vote is 8. I was totally miserable for about 10 days and did not take pain meds because they make me sick if taken on an empty stomach. The gas pains were intense and my port really hurt....guess it didnt help that I got dehydrated and developed a UTI.

5 1/2 weeks later and I feel great now.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
