Lost port, need positive feedback PLEASE!

Recommended Posts

Banded 7/26, 30pds down. Knew something was wrong w/port site incision very early on, had incision checked and was told "looks beautiful". Last weekend I was in extreme pain, my incision had always been egg-shaped, but this was huge! I had no response from my pages to Dr so went to er Got antibiodics and appt w/dr. early next morn. He said still didn't look that bad, but if infection got to port, I'd lose it. Gave 3 different antibiotics and check up 4 days later. Today he removed my port and over 1/2 cup of pus! I have a huge open hole that I hv to clean and pack 3xs a day. I still don't know if I'll lose the band and I can't stop crying..I am self pay and would hate to see $10,700 down the drain,so I am adamant that I will not gain and continue to lose. Can anyone relate to my story or send me some good thoughts or prayers? I'd really appreciate it!

I'm so sorry you have to go through that. I too am self pay and cant imagen how I would feel if I had any problems like yours, I hope you dont lose your band as well, just keep eating well and maintain the new habits you have developed and you will do great. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Oh man, I really feel bad for you and I am so sorry this is happening. I am selfpay too and paid out 15grand. I was banded just a few days after you on 7/30...and something happening was my worse fear...try to stay positive and at least you got it drained and hopefully you will heal and not lose your band..I will say a prayer for you!! Hang in there and try to just keep doing what your doing with your eating and habits and hopefully before you know it your healed and nothing bad...*hugs*

I am so sorry for all you are going through. I was banded the same day as you and I would hate to have such a huge set back.

I wanted to tell you that when I was first looking into lapband and looking at this site, I read a lot of lapband blogs. I can remeber one who had the same problem as you. She got a terrible infection, had to have her port removed, had a huge painful hole and was on a ton of antibotics.

When I read her blog she had lost a lot of weight. I remember the timeline was something like she got banded in oct, had her port removed in nov, was cleared for surgery again in dec/jan when she had a new port put in. When I read her blog it was early summer and she had a lot of success since the port was put in.

I would talk with your doctor and I wouldn't take no for an answer. Good luck! Stay strong!

Sending you good vibes! Good for you for staying on top of this. I truly hope that you can keep your band. I've had to pack an infection before and it is not fun but keep your chin up and remember that this will pass. A few weeks from now it will be a memory. Best best wishes to you. Keep us posted.

So sorry to hear of your set-back. Will keep positive thoughts for you. As far as finances go, while I was insured, my doc has a flat fee for self-pays and that fee is inclusive of ANY services that is needed for 2 years after surgery. Usually it just covers the fills, however, he told me if there were any issues at all - they would be covered within the 24 month window. Hopefully this set-back will not affect your pocket book and I'm confident you will prevail and get to keep the band once the infection is cleared up. Best of luck!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
