Any one had this complication???

Recommended Posts

I have had my lapband for three years and it has never worked correctly. I did lose about 50 pounds, but I never had enough restriction to go further. Since I was banded in Mexico (I know, I know...but please don't judge me since I was a desperate to lose weight at almost 300 pounds and my insurance had a bariatric exclusion) I just gave up. So about two weeks ago, I started having this extreme sharp pain in my lower right abdomen. I thought is was appendicitis or something of that nature. I went to the ER because I couldn't even walk without pain. They did a CAT scan and found nothing at the ER. A couple of days later the radiologist who read the CAT scan in detail called me and said my port and the tubing was fractured and down in my pelvis! WHAT??? Luckily, I now have bariatric coverage (as of Sept. 1) and after calling several doctors I found one who would treat me. I go in Saturday. I just needed to vent and see if anyone out there has been through this. I am excited that I more than likely will have a lapband that works despite all this pain!

That's a new one because I read up on band issues but never heard that one before. My problem is that I will do good but about two to three weeks later I can't keep nothing down including Water. I go to my doctor and he just loosen my band a little. The interesting thing is that it helps but like clock work after a few weeks I have that problem again. Anyone had that issue or been told by their doctor what it is or why it does that? Its a horrible feeling.

One of the girls on here had her tubing rubbing on her diaphragm and causing bad pain, she had an op to shorten the tubing.

I dont know anyone who's had it down in their pelvis, but I'm having a big pelvic surgery later this year and thankfully my surgeon has lapband experience, he did say that he could pretty much guarantee the safety of my band but said the tubing can be REALLY hard to find after a couple of years, it does tend to move around and bury itself, so he vowed to be very careful not to puncture or nick it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
