One month preggo and band not working!

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I just took a preggo test on Saturday and discovered I am pregnant. I noticed the last couple days that I was getting hungry a lot more. Today at work, I ate basically all day, and was still hungry. On my way home, I was so hungry I stopped at McDonalds and got a Big Mac, which I haven't been able to eat since banded in Dec of 2008. I just finished it! None of it got stuck! Granted, feel full finally, but I NEVER wanted to be able to eat a Big Mac again, no matter what! Last week I got full off 1/2 cup of food and stuff was still getting stuck! What the hell happened to my band? This food problem started yesterday, I still had restriction on Saturday, some Sunday, and now here Monday I got nothin'! And just to clarify, I did NOT overeat until today, so I haven't stretched out my band. And today my version of over eating was half a thing of oatmeal at Breakfast (eaten over a two hour period), Water, lunch I had 1/4 of a cheese roll up, 1 cup of salad with ital dressing, (which should have more than filled me up) then about 5 corn chips dipped in hummus, and Andes mint. I also ate Peanut Butter crackers as a snack- all six of them. I am so proud of my weight loss (295 to 185), but am terrified something happened to my band that it stopped working. HELP!!!!!

HI, may I ask how you are going with your pregnancy and band?

I am 8 weeks and have found I can eat a lot of food, especially late in the day. I am a bit worried that I may be stretching my pouch but I often feel hungry. Just looking for more insight from others who have been through this with the band.

Also struggling to figure out what I can safely eat that also sits well with my band.

Would love to hear from you.

Hi...not sure what to tell you.... I've been soooo much hungrier with this pregnancy. However, I did have about 4.5cc removed from my band and I can eat everything! This is my 3rd pregnancy, first with the band and I wake up hungry almost every night. I hope things level out with you!

My band is really susceptible to hormonal variations. However, pregnancy usually causes me to need immediate unfills because I get really, exceedingly tight overnight.

I was banded with my last pregnancy and I can tell you that the band does not work like normal during pregnancy. I can go from struggling to get Water down to being able to eat a sub, bread and all, within less than a 24 hour period. It does seem to stabilize somewhat once you are no longer pregnant.

I just thought to update my sad series of events. I ended up miscarrying. It was horrible. I am worried that my body is not healthy enough. I have low Iron, low Vit D, low blood pressure, even low cholesterol. I have had hypothyroidism for 15 years and just recently diagnosed with Hoshimotos. I feel pregnancy is a dream at this point. I have a beautiful baby girl who just turned six, and I am greatful. I would love another baby, but am worried it won't happen. Hopefully I can read some posts on here about woman getting preggers successfully after bandage...

Thank you all for you comments.

I am really sorry that you are going through this and my thoughts are with you and your family. I hope that your dream will be realized in the near future and that your health will stabilize as well. Did the doctor give you any indication as to why it happened? How far along were you?

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
