So, this week was my second fill appt since being banded on July 15th. I have a 14cc band and had 4ccs put in my band on 8/24/10. I thought everything was fine and actually was ready for my next fill because I felt like I didnt have much restriction. I was having heart burn, but always had heartburn so I didnt pay any attention to it. So I go in on thursday of this week which was 9/9/10. I explained to the N.P. that I was working out all the time and making good food choices but was still not getting full and was ready for more fill! She then weighed me and I only lost 2 pounds in 2 weeks, which is fine, I will take a loss any day but for the amount I have been working out it should have been more loss then the 2. So we talk about my heartburn and before I know it she has me doing a barium swallow xray. The xray was taken and low and behold I'M POOLING!!!!!!! In actuality my band was TOO TIGHT not too loose!!!! I could see the barium all pool around my band. I was like oh no!! So...she removed all 4ccs of my band and I currently have NOTHING in there once again. It sucks, I hate this feeling. I have to wait a week and a half before going back again to get a fill to give my band sometime for the swelling to go down. Heartburn is gone which is a good thing but I want some restriction. But, I understand this is for the better that we found out this bump in the road now but it's a pain! She also recommended that next time I go we put in 2ccs instead of 4ccs and start slowly filling me. I would rather be safe, but still it's disappointing. But, im still making good food choices and working out daily. Im not going to let this little bump get me down!!!!!

Just wanted to share!!!!

Has anyone else experienced this?! Would love to hear your story/stories!!!!

Kelly

oh and side note, since being banded 7/15/10 I have lost a total of 66 pounds :tongue2:

Through all the setbacks, you've lost tons and shows to be from great effort. My question to you is, how could you be pooling, if you felt like you didn't have restriction? Thanks

Hi Kelly,

I see that you go to Dr. Glasgow. I was just banded on August 17th by Arthur. Love them! While I haven't had your problem, I'm kinda freaking out about the weight loss. I lost 25 lbs between the preop diet and the immediate post op. The scale hasn't budged in 2 weeks! I'm doing the same think you are- working out a fair amount. I'm assuming my body is just adjusting....

Your 66 lb weight loss is awesome! At least they diagnosed the band problem right away! It's nice they have all the equipment right there. hopefully you'll have more luck with going slowly. I won't get my first fill for 2 1/2 weeks.

Do you go to any of the support groups?

Lisa

I wasn't sure what restriction was. I wasn't sure how I was supposed to feel. So the heartburn, etc...was from being too restricted. So, lesson learned!!!

Lisa thats GREAT! Adam did my surgery but I know Arthur as well, they are fantastic! Actually I met Adam years ago when he took out my appendix. When I heard he specialized now in weight loss surgery I was so excited! So, that's how it all started!

Dont worry if the scale isn't budging. It will! The same thing happened to me. You have to remember you still don't have restriction yet either, so you just have to be really careful as far as making healthy food choices  All of the hard work will pay off, trust me! I still have so much more to go but I'm SO happy with the 66 pounds I have lost.

Goodluck on your first fill! I'm sure you will do just fine! It is really great that they have all the equipment on site so you dont have to go back and forth to the hospitals for things that can be done right there in their office!

I havent gone to a support group yet, no, but I do planning on attending one! We should go on the same day. Let me know :tongue2:

And again goodluck on your first fill!!!!

Kelly

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
