First Fill? 2.7cc

Recommended Posts

I got my second fill Thursday and I went from 2 cc's up to 3 cc's in a 4 cc band. I was worried at first - but I guess we are all different!!

I can eat just fine.

I have had fill issues too. The one I got in October didn't kick in until 4 weeks later. Had to get another unfill and I just got another fill last week and I only feel only a little restricted. I'm thinking through trial and error that maybe 1.5 would be a good spot for me. I'm going to wait and see how I do with this one. I haven't lost anymore weight so the nutritionist told me to do Protein only for 1 week. I hope that works! You can see my fill record below. That's been the most difficult thing for me.

I had my second fill on December 15th totalling 2cc. However, I am just now feeling restriction. Is it normal to have the restriction show up some days later? Maybe, I was subconsiously chewing my food more just after the fill and just really started feeling it. I don't know! Maybe I'm just crazy.

Hi Heather! I recently had my first fill 2 cc. Didn't do the fluoroscope . This is really bad, but I don't even know my band size. I'm going to have to ask when I go back in a few weeks.

Since my fill, I have experienced "stuck" food- twice. OMG, I wanted to die! It hurt so bad . I wasn't chewing well enough & I wasn't drinking enough Water through out the day. I've learned my lesson.

After my fill, I was told to go back to 2 days of liquids, then 2 days of soft foods. Did any of you have to do that? I HATE the liquid stage!

I didn't have to do the liquid or mushie stage again.

I didn't know my band size either until I asked, and then I made sure they told me how much they put in!

7 weeks later and I am finally slowing down and chewing my food! Getting food stuck is the worst kind of pain!

Way to go with your weight loss!!!

I had my first fill today, 1/3/06. I was nervous about the needle, but excited about feeling some restriction. Since the surgery, I have been able to eat anything and everything!

I found out my band is the larger band, the nurse-practitioner used initials, vgb, vbg???? Not sure now. I would like to know the difference between band types.

I found out that I had 2 cc in the band from the initial surgery on 11/21/05. Today they added 4.5 cc, for a total of 6.5 cc.

I don't feel any restriction yet, but I will be on liquids for the next two days. Perhaps I will notice restriction when I move on to mushies?

I was weighed today and have not lost any weight since my first post op visit on 11/28/05. HOWEVER, this is the first holiday period I remember where I didn't gain weight. I ate what I wanted and tried to pay attention to when I felt full. I did notice that on New Years Eve we drank wine and snacked on h'orduerves for a couple of hours before dinner. I found that grazing was too easy to do and dangerous--way too much food can be consumed over a period of hours and defeat the purpose of the band. I will make sure I don't fall into the grazing habit!

Has anyone had similar experiences?

Hi Chery

No you are not alone, I'm experiencing the same thing, except my Dr. is not giving me enough. As I said in my last message, I'm very discouraged.

Help! I am soo frusterated. I had my surgery on 10-29-05. 10 weeks ago today. I have a 10 cc band and no restirction. I had my first fill 6 weeks post op. He gave me 3 cc's. Still no restriction. I have only lost 4 lbs. I guess I just thought I would atleast have some restriction.

When I had my first fill in 11-05 Dr. Spivak put in 1.5cc and it helped. I still have some restriction but I really don't want alot put in the next time. I want to be able to use it as a tool and not a quick-fix...so knowing that I try to watch what I eat and to cut down so I don't have a PB or get stuck and figure out when to stop on my own. I guess what I am trying to say is that I want some restriction but not so much that food gets stuck and I want to mentally get to where I "know" how much I should eat not how much I can eat. Make sense??

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
