You'll be fine; many just prefer to use Splenda or some other sweetener that is considered to be a bit more "healthy."

My doctor actually forbids splenda. I also think it is too soon for us to be having coffee, it can irritate the lining of the stomach. Instead of splenda they recommend Truvia or Sweet n Low.

Yeah, I used to use splenda also. But apparently it raises your blood sugar or something, I don't know. My doctor is super uber strict and has rules about everything. I feel like if I follow all his rules, I will be eating nothing for the rest of my life.

I had my two week post op visit and asked about coffee. He said I can have either regular or Decaf. In the food hand out it said I could have sweeteners. I've never mentioned that I use Splendra but pre op he told me to carry on what I was doing because I was loosing weight (about 55 pounds in 7 months.) I take that to mean I can use Splendra.

I don't avoid sugar completely and was not told to. Of course you must use it in moderation. I use Equal and Splenda normally but occasionally have a dessert with real sugar.

There is no physical reason for avoiding sugar with the lap band. It will not harm the band. Many bandsters limit their sugar because of a change in dietary habits, or diabetes, or they prefer low carb. Also, it seems in alot of folks that food with sugar just increases their appetite for more sugar. But there is no problem with sugar that some have with RNY.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
