My stomach is very swollen and bruised, anyone know about how long until the swelling subsides, was banded 5 days ago in Mexico. Everything else going well, no nausea, no heartburn, and very littl gas. Had a half a scrambled egg on Friday, and a couple bites of shrimp and rice yesteray, all with no problems. Just curious about the swelling. Thanks

First of all congrats on the band....Second why are you eating already??? I was under the impression that you should be eating full liquids only at this point. you should let your stomach rest and heal dont try to force your self to eat let your tummy get some rest...

You are right about fluids, but I'm soo hungry, I've been very careful, and trying to stick to Jello and yougurt, but old habits die hard, thanks for advice though it's always good to be kept on course.

It took about 10 days for my swelling to go down and for me to start feeling like myself. Im still bruised, seen doc friday he said some just take longer to heal from them.

Be strong... didn't your doctor put you on a liquid diet.. You can do it. It just takes some will power!! I was on liquid for 2 weeks before my band and 2 weeks after my band, then baby food.. I just started eatting regular food, but have to chew the hell out of it.

Really sucks to have a piece of chicken stuck in your throat. I felt like I was choking..

You can do it.. We all did it.. Also if you don't follow the diet your band can slip and you will have to have it removed..

Then you will have to ask yourself why did I do it in the first place.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
