Hello everyone... i just need to vent a little...I am a slave to the scale....and i haven't even been banded yet! i have started my pre-op diet and was expecting this miraculous weight loss (even though the diet is to shrink my liver not lose weight) and i am so bummed out that i don't see the scale moving.

It is making me second guess getting surgery cuz if i cant lose wight on my own how will i be able to with the band..some one please tell me that weight loss is possible with the band (even though i know it is i have read and seen results from others) i guess i just need encouragement :(

Thanks, Zen

I understand what you're going through. However, you're setting yourself up for failure by psyching yourself out before you even start! There is power in positive thinking! I actually got rid of the scale I had an currently do not own one and have no plans of ever having one in my house! The scale is nothing but discouragement for me, so I got rid of it. Give yourself the tools for success and think positive! You have lots of people here supporting you!

I was on a high protein/low carb diet prior to surgery. We were also on vacation during this time too so I didn't have access to the scale and it was killing me not to know. I could tell that I had lost weight because of the way my clothes were fitting me though. Well, when I got home the scale had not moved at all and I thought it was very strange. The day after we got home I was on Clear Liquids (Tues) and then Wed had surgery. Im 6 days out from surgery and I've lost 14 lbs since I last weight myself. So don't worry- IT WILL HAPPEN!

I'm 3 days from surgery- on high Protein low carb (3 Protein shakes daily and a light dinner salad with small breast of chicken cut in it). Been doing this for about a week and not a pound gone!!! But I've also figured out the calories and it's barely 800/day so my body could be freaking out hanging onto everything.

I'm also peeing like a racehorse and haven't slept more than 2 hours at a time without getting up to go! That may be the biggest reason I'm ready to be off mostly liquids!!!

We'll lose it!!! Just stick to it!

Hang in there! Im sure we all get a little frazzled and obsessive like that with the scale. But for me, thats why I do always fail with diets, cause I work hard for a few days and see no results so I give up. Its only when I avoid the scale that I lose weight. Go figure.

Ya know, You might not see resultes today but in another 3 days you might see a big difference!

Dont give up! You can and WILL do great, especially with the surgery! :)

My surgeon wanted me to do a 500 Calorie:rolleyes: liquid diet (HMR); which I did for 5 days and did'nt loose anything! I went to his office and said it was giving me an allergic reaction, I was'nt loosing weight, and it was giving me the worst food obsession I have ever had. Considering I had been loosing 2 pounds a week on my own diet (1-2 Protein Shakes a day and 1-2 meals) and exercising 7 days a week the nurse told me to stop the HMR. In my opinion being on an obscenly low calorie diet is counterproductive.

I didn't lose anything pre-op so don't be discouraged. I had to gain 30 lbs to be at the weight it took to get approved by insurance and then to not lose any was a blow to my self-esteem. Thankfully I have lost it and more. Just take your time and don't think about it. I weigh myself 3 times a day and that helps me to determine if I am going to eat that day or just do Protein Shakes, I know it isn't healthy but I can't stop.

scale fixation can be easily remedied by throwing the darn thing in the dumpster and weighing only at your doctor's office. My pre-op weight loss was nothing to write home about either, but post op I am down 36 pounds as of last Monday.

Believe, Zeniada!

Hi, my name is Bob and I am a scale whore. :cursing:

You don't have to get away from the scale, you just have to become accustomed to the fluctuations.

Weigh as often as you'd like (have to) but only record your weight once a week.

Reading posts like this have helped me to make the decision not to weigh myself until I am at least a month out from surgery.

It seems the body goes through such fluctuations with these pre-op diets and then the gas and Fluid build up after surgery and the liquid diets.

I'm going to go by how I feel and my clothes fit.

My surgery is tomorrow so I will measure myself tonight and weigh myself tomorrow and that will be it for as least a month if not more.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
