How long does it take the swelling to go down??

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 7/29/10 and was unable to keep anything down for 5 days and stayed in the hospital until 8/2 when they figured out I had 4 cc's of Fluid in my band that should never have been there. So....I guess I am a little behind in the healing process anyway. But...how long before the swelling goes down and I can eat something other than liquids?

My post-op diet says after 3-5 days add Optima Slim Fast as tolerated and after day 7, I can add mushies, such as mashed potatoes, or scrambled eggs.< /p>

Also, what time do you stop drinking/eating at night?

Thanks!

Most nights I don't get to eat dinner until 7.30pm. Sometimes I have greek yogurt or a diet choc mousse afterwards at about 9pm. This hasn't caused me any problems so far.

I usually try to eat dinner around 5:30PM then nothing but Water after. It all depends really. I try to eat no later then 3 hours within my bed time, though I'm breaking that rule today because I just woke up from a 5 hour nap. Oops.

Hey sprinkles...I had the same thing happen to me..was banded on July 30th and felt so bad and in so much discomfort and pain for days than finally on day 5 after not being able to take a few sips of Water without cramps I went to the doctor who withdrew 2cc's of Fluid that I should of never had in there..told me it was left in there while they tested it for leaks!! once he took it out I felt better the next day and today feeling very hungry.... but oh well better than being in such pain!! Good luck to you!!

I am on my sixth day post opt. I have been having lleft should disconfort and behind my left shoulder blade. I have been following my nutrionist program of 1/4-1/2 cup of non fat cottage cheese, greek yogurt, sugar free pudding, and 1 cup of Protein Shake 3 times a day and the other foods are for my choices for Snacks. the first day I did that and my stomach was boated, shoulders hurt stomach was very heavy. Oh and Ihad to have at least 64 oz of Water. I never reached the 64 oz of water. It has only been 2 day so far. Today, I am going to try to lower all the amount. Drink continuouly water very slowly. 1/2 cup of shake with water not skim milk, 1/4 cup of non fat cottage cheese, greek yogurt as my snacks. Yesterday I only had 1 snack all day and I was so full from the shakes and really wanted another snack but could not do it. I was so bloated with the shoulder pain. Getting up this morning I felt a little relief, but still feel full. I will start this morning with a 1/4 cup shake with water not milk. I suggest those of you after your Clear Liquids after surgery, you will want the 1/2 cup option but it is not worth the disconfort. So to the lowest options. Starting my second day of thick liquids, I am using isolate Protein 1 scoop is 2grams of protein. I thinking I will putting 2 scoops and get 50grams in one serving so I do another shake with 1 scoop to avoid the bloated feeling and able to eat snacks between. I also have to trink the shake very slowly.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
