I'm on day 3 of my pre op diet and I feel HORRIBLE

Recommended Posts

I have a headache and I'm very sick to my stomach. I'm drinking my Protein shakes and getting my Water in it.

This will pass right?

:cursing: Did you drink caffiene before, and are you drinking anything with caffiene now? Could cause headaches if you cut it out cold turkey!

When my sister had her band done she had trouble feeling sick just drinking the shakes, she thinks it was because she wasn't that into sweet stuff, especially in the mornings..., I didn't have any problems like that, but when she was able to start with the soft foods she felt better.

Good luck and I hope you start feeling better soon.

Yeah I'm on no caffeine and I normally drink Diet Dr Pepper, coffee and Tea. Maybe I just need a little caffeine? My doctor allows caffeine but you have to drink either tea or coffee and for the pre op part he wants it unsweetened and I can't do that. I like it with Splenda in it instead.

I think I would drink alittle coffee with the splenda or something in it...are you sure your dr didn't mean just no sugar? Maybe you can try a half a no-doze pill (it's just caffiene)...see if that helps with the headaches at least...Good Luck!

later, Joanie :cursing:)

It will pass .

Look back at some of your very recent posts and remember how anxious you were to be approved and to be right where your at now.

If none of the above suggestions work take a nice shower and turn in early.

Tomorrow will be a better day.

When I get to this point that is exactly what I will be doing when the going get's rough.

I'm on day 2 and I was thinking the same thing this afternoon! I went back to read my preop diet and I thought I could only have 1 frozen meal with my shakes, but it turns out I can have 2! I wasn't getting enough food! I'm glad I caught that on day 2 and not day 14 or I would have been dragging! Your BMI is similiar to mine, maybe you are not getting enough... just a thought!

I know you want it bad.

Immerse yourself in what your doing for yourself. That's why I'm on here all day.

I also loved checking out the vids on Youtube..talk about encouragement. There is a great inspiration on there , her name is skymoon1982. She's about your age and did the pre-op liquid diet through Christmas and New Years without a smitch of cheating.

Check out BandedWendy too she just made goal and is getting married.

Today is day 12 for me and I had a Migraine for the first three days. I can't drink coffee unless it has lots of Creamer and real sugar, I can' t do splenda nor stevia in coffee. So I was low carb, high Protein and no coffee.

After the first three days I felt a lot better, and as long as I "ate" every three hours and kept my Water intake up and gelt fine, just a lot of mouth hunger. But on the positive side, I had my preop appointment today. I needed to lose 4 pounds and I lost 11!! Woohoo!!

So keep your eye on your goal, really it does get better!

Way to go!! I think I've finally figured it out. I drink a shake and then a few hours later I have some chicken broth. I alternate those every few hours and so far it's working great for me!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
