10 days out need advice

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I had surgery 10 days ago and I feel really good now. My questions are. We went camping this weekend at day 7 and I am suppose to be on anything I can pour consistency. I forgot part of my blender and did my best to smash and/or eat like I am suppose to. However, there were several times that I ate basically like I would have preop. What is wrong with me. I am hungry like before, I am wanting to snack like before, if I didn't have the scars I would swear I had nothing in me.

I just got home and got out the blender part I forgot and made myself some canned hamsalad.

I am at a loss. Also in the first 5 days I lost 14 lbs but I am sure they are all back now. Please tell me that this is normal.

Yes it is perfectly normal. You haven't had any fills yet. The first month is about healing, not weight loss. I know it's frustrating, I expected the band to work right away. It took 3 fills for me to feel any kind of restriction. Hang in there, it will get better. For now, I would focus on eating the right things (low carb, low fat, high protien), even if they are larger portions than what you will eat once you have restriction. Best wishes!

If I am doing my math correctly - we were banded on the same day (the 15th) - I got lucky - am still feeling a lot of restriction and not very much hunger at all. I go back and forth between pureed/mushy and Protein Shakes. I have lost about 18 lbs since surgery. Everyone's experience is different.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
