set back :(

Recommended Posts

I'm so upset. I have been walking 3 miles 5-6 days a week and really enjoy it. Well, this past week, my right hip started hurting and now it's to the point where I can hardly lift it up. I'm thinking I have tendonitis in my right hip. I have a doctors appt tomorrow. My surgeon says I cant take any NSAIDS so I am taking Tylenol right now. My surgeon said that I need to rest for a bit or at least decrease the amount I walk and only walk on level surfaces, no hills. It just feels like I have been doing so well and now a set back. Thanks for listening! I'm just really upset! :)

I am so sorry you are going through this! Try not to get out of the exercise habit. Hopefully a bit of rest and all will be well.

I have bad tendons in my hips and arthritis in one knee.

Have you asked your surgeon if you can do a short round of NSAIDs for a particular injury? Mine will let me do short bursts, but I cannot take them on a daily basis. Of course, do what YOUR surgeon says.

Maybe you can do some upper body weights, even just using canned vegetables as weights if you don't have any, to keep the habit going.

Pain sucks that is for certain!

Sorry to hear about your injury - they can be very tough to work through. Don't give up on exercise all together! Work areas that aren't injured and watch your energy balance very close until you can get past the injury. You can do it!

Try Water aerobics, the water supports your body while you exercise. Plus the water gives extra resistance. :)

Thanks for the support guys! Cocoa, my surgeon said no NSAIDS because there are so many GI side effects. Honestly, before I called her though, I had already taken Advil. It didnt seem to do much though. It is a really good idea to try to work other areas of the body until my hip heals! I also like the Water aerobics idea Leigha! Thanks again guys!

Well, glad you asked! Yes, most surgeons say no NSAIDS, period.

Hopefully you'll be able to get it resolved soon. You could do an aspercream type of thing. If it is tendonitis, it probably would not help, but you never know. Also, glucosamine/chondroitin/msm is said to help joints.

For me, when tendons flare, ice is often the best pain relief I can find.

You could always swim if you have access to a pool.

Also, you can do things like take a heavy weight (like a bag of sand) and do full body exercises like squats and lunges, its incredibly taxing and will get your heart rate right up there.

I really try not to run *too* much but to do other things that build up other areas of my body so that I avoid injury and so far, touch wood, I have. Doing the same thing every day really does make you more injury prone.

While a setback, it has not thrown you off the horse. Do anything you can to stay active. Focus on your upper body instead during the time you would take your walks. You will be back on the walking trail before you know it!

I had major ankle and foot problems caused by my exercising and I did anything I could to supplement the hardcore treadmill with something else so that I did not get back into lazy mode.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
