First time and not sure I got enough

Recommended Posts

The fill nurse was new and not experienced so he said drink this Water and let's see. So 3 ccs go in my 14 cc band and we hear a gurgle so he backs out a cc then I said I guess it's ok but could feel it more and kind of hiccup. He backed out another so my fill was 1 cc. I don't feel different now and wonder if I don't have enough fill. I only lost 7 pounds since my surgery 6 weeks ago and 20 pounds total. My doctor seemed stern and said " time to get serious" so I hope I get some help here

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated I am feeling sort of worried. Thanks

I also have a 14cc band. First fill 2.5 - felt nothing. Second fill another 2.5cc - again nothing. Third fill 2cc - bringing me to 7cc - slight restriction. I had no preop diet, and have really been watching the amounts I consume. I eat what I want, just smaller amounts. I decided to not have a fill today because even though I do not have full restriction, I can eat, be satisfied, am losing at a steady rate. As they say - you are in bandster hell. Keep with it. You are going to do great.

I have been banded about 7 weeks, had my first fill almost two weeks ago and it seemed like it lasted just under a week. Now I feel like I never got a fill at all. I got 3cc's, not sure how much my band holds total. From everything I've read, it's a lot of trial and error with the fills. They never get it right at first and it will take several until you feel restriction. I am not supposed to go back for another month. So I sympathize with you. I've only lost 12 pounds since surgery day and 18 total. But I am trying to be patient and continue to do the right things, I know it'll work out. Just keep doing your best, that's usually enough.

It may take more than 1 fill to get you to good restriction. There can be swelling after the fill for a few days so it could be restrictive at first and then not restrictive enough. Different doctors will do fills more often than 1 month especially at first I would think.

Also as your body changes the restriction on the band could change also meaning another adjustment to your fill. And everybody is different as to how much it takes to get restriction.

Watch if you can eat more than you should, or feel hungry too soon after your proper sized meal, those are indicators of not having enough fill.

Good luck!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
