Dr. John Groves - Why the wait?

Recommended Posts

When my dr says a month it is always 6 weeks to. I use dr Grooves partner I believe its part of thier fill guide lines. I can understand that yuore frustrations lay more on the being lied to by the staff but they probally have alot of patients who know if he is in the office will just show up demanding to see him. I think that may be their way of using a easier method to go by the guidelines than arguing with some patients about changing fill appointments. But I do belive they should just tell it like it is and not lie to you. As for your band it will get esier as you go and as long as your not gaining any loss is good at this point. You will get a fill that does it for you some times it takes a while. It took me nearly a year to even start losing so just hang in there.

Thank you for responding. It worries me that it took you a year to start losing. I only have a year that I can go before I have to start paying for every visit- That's the deal when you pay instead of using insurance. Its $15,500 and that covers everything for a year- Its called "The Fast Track" I was told I would lose 80% of my weight in the first year-

Of course, I am doing really good I think. 30 pounds so far- I got stuck at the same weight for about 4 weeks after my first fill, but the last week, I've dropped a few pounds.

I really love my LB, and I love Dr. Groves and the people there. It just boiled my blood to know they lied to me. And if the 6 week thing is their guide lines, then Dr. Groves needs to start saying "See you in 6 weeks!" instead of "See you in a month!" cause when he says he wants to see me in a month, that's what I expect- Lol-

Paitence.... I need some-)

i am just in the beginning process of getting everything done to get the approval for the surgery and i am going to use the same Drs office you used just the other Dr ..Dr Britt and he has done several things for me and he seems awesome and i did have one issue with them and he got it taken care of but i hope that i dont have to do that too but i dont understand all the wait if you have the surgery they need to take you as they tell you i will speak up and they have learned that about me at that office ...so maybe you just need to do the same ....

I had my surgery May 14, 2010- Everything went great, and Dr. Groves was WONDERFUL- I really appreciated him coming in and praying before the surgery and being so supportive-

I went in for my post-op 2 weeks after that. Up to that point, my weight-loss had been great. Dr. Groves said to come back in a months time. I go and check out, and get my appointment. Well, when I got home and looked, they had made it for 6 weeks instead. I called (thinking it was just an honest mistake) and they offered to move it up a week. Okay... But that is still longer that a month- So...

As time went on, I could eat whatever I wanted, and was having to fight myself every day to keep from gaining weight. I called them back to try to move it up some more, but the lady said she could only move it up one day. Really? What would the point of that be exactly? She said the doctor was going to be out of the office until then-

Well, then I get a phone call from my friend that uses that doctor- She had just got back from getting a fill- From this doctor that wasn't supposed to even be there. So apparently, they lied to me?? I wanted to call up there and be rude, but I thought better of it, and just waited my 5 weeks.

When I finally got there for my fill, I had lost 1 pound. That really surprised me, since I figured I had gained some. Dr. Groves was as awesome as ever- He did my fill, and told me to come back in a month- When I get my appointment, I noticed it was for 6 weeks AGAIN! Are you kidding me??

So, I go back to the desk, and ask why not a month. She tells me that he is going to be out of the office the 2 weeks prior- SO, once again, I bite my tongue, smile, and leave. The next day, I called back up there, and asked them to move it (to the week before he was going to be out of the office) because my niece is having surgery the scheduled day. This lady was really nice, and moved it up a week for me. So... He ISN'T going to be out of the office? I'm either confused, or I've been lied to again-

My view is this... I paid them a lot of money- My family sacrificed a ton for me to get this surgery- We sold our home, and moved in with my mom. My husband is now working 3 jobs to help pay for it, and this Dr's office is jerking me around, and waisting time- They were great at first. They got me into surgery super fast (and made sure to get my $15,500 even faster) And now that they have my money, they are making me sit at home and wait... I didn't have to wait to pay, but I have to wait for a fill?? And wait and wait.... You get the point!~ It's very frustrating to have my family looking at me like I'm doing something wrong because I'm not losing any weight, and then have this Dr's office make me wait longer that necessary to get my fills-

I don't go back for another fill until August 13- I can already tell that I need another one- I stay full longer than I did before, but I don't get full any faster. I am tired of playing the waiting game here. What would be the harm in getting my fill sooner? Today has been a week- So next Friday, would seem to me, like a reasonable time to get another one-

I dunno.... Dr. Groves is the bomb- I just don't appreciate this over waiting (it just leads to MORE over eating)

Yes. They got a new staff. I told Amy about how I was treated and she pointed out that they had replaced a lot of their staff, and that they weren't aware of how the former staff had been doing. I LOVE Amy. She is great. They all are, but she is my favorite! Good luck with your weight loss!!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
