How many of you had insurance cover your Lap Band?

I was approved on the first try. I have BCBS of TN as my insurer. Since I participate in a High Deductible Health plan my out of pocket expenses will be $4500...most of which I paid with the things I needed to do pre-surgery.

BCBS of Alabama...fought for 2 years and they denied me so I self paid. After the surgery I submitted all my receipts and they reimbursed me 50% for the anesthesia and denied the surgeon and the hospitals bills so I filed an appeal. Now 7 months later I got a letter stating that they have reversed the appeal and are going to reimburse me for the surgeon and the hospital..just not sure how much...anything is better than nothing...persistence and faith is paying off!!

Independent Health, approved the first time after meeting with Dr., Psych, and Nut. All of those were covered with a $20 copay each, $20 copay for pre-op testing and $20 copay for each fill. I love my insurance!

I have BC/BS of IL, and was given provisional approval within a day or so of my surgeon's information seminar. Once all the prerequisites were met, it took about 4 weeks--but it was holiday time, and that did slow things down a bit.

I have Carefirst BCBS and it was covered 100% after 3 month diet requirement was completed. I received the authorization within a week of my doctor submitting the request.

I have Cigna. They denied me the first time. My PCP copied my very thick medical chart and sent it to them. I was immediately approved. They were very good IMHO.

I have Tricare and was approved right away (after the testing, psych eval, etc), without needing a 3 or 6 month diet.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
