how far did i set myself back?

Recommended Posts

hi friends!

ok, so i have a question. i have been following a low carb/low sugar diet since my may 20th banding. doing pretty well...i'm done 37 lbs...and loving it!

so this last weekend (holiday weekend) we had three cookouts and went to a baseball game....i tried to make the best food choices available (even took band friendly/carb friendly dish to two of the the cookouts)..but i def over did it on the carbs and the sugar...the baseball game was the worse i think. I attempted to smuggle in a Protein Shake and Protein Bar but they were confiscated at the gate :( really? i was ticked...anyways fast forward to the fifth inning and i am so super hungry...went down to the concourse to see what was there for me to eat...and ended up with nachos and cheese:rolleyes: they were yummy (also drank about 60 ounces of Water while at the game...EXPENSIVE! haha)...buuuut this morning, i am just curious as to how much i set myself back after a weekend of carbs and sugar....

woke up this morning, weighed myself...lost two lbs this last week...(the inches loss are exceeding the weight loss!)

so did a shake this morning, and one for lunch...might do shakes a couple days..

just wanted everyones opions...

hope you all had a great holiday weekend!! :):)

They really confiscated a bar? I could understand liquid, sort of, but a bar?

Think I'd be telling them due to a medical condition, I can't eat the garbage sold at the game.

But anyway, glad you enjoyed the nachos, I don't see any permanent damage from enjoying a junk food treat. I do it from time to time. It just isn't part of my normal diet now.

I have a card in my wallet that I can hand to food service that says I have bariatric restrictions. That way they have to let me have 1/2 portions or order from children's menus. I'm surprised too that they took that :) I think if you completely restrict the occasional treat you'll go crazy and pig-out. Sounds like you did well and do sweat it!! Good job @ your inches and lbs lost!

Carosel2002, how did you get the bariatric restrictions card? Is it something you have to obtain from your surgeon?

You should be fine! I think its good to treat your self every once in awhile. Last week I ate some fast food for the first time in MONTHS! I lost 5 pounds this week... one little thing wont hurt you, youll be fine!

Angel- When you had your band done they should have given you a packet from LapBand. In it is a temporary card and you go online to LapBand.com and register your band and they will send you a card in 4- 6 weeks. I registered for mine yesterday.

One of the drawbacks to trying to eat very low carb or low fat diets is that they are rarely sustainable long-term. When your body finally breaks you down you can find yourself binging and giving up lots of progress.

hey guys.

thanks for the replies. i have a lapband card, but i didnt even think about showing them! haha

went to kings island yesterday, and believe it or not, i found a ton of stuff that was band friendly...and i was allowed to bring anything into the park, so had my trusty Protein Bars and a shake with me

brad, the low carb diet is really the only thing that works for me...i have pcos (which as a guy you prolly have no idea about...haha) and one of the HUGE drawback with having that is sugar and carbs make you gain...and gain a lot! so for me actually lose, i have to really watch the carbs in my diet.

hope you all had a great weekend!

Ah... You are correct that I am not well versed in PCOS. :) I understand PCOS complicates the whole process and have some friends who suffer from PCOS as well. I wish you the best in your journey!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
