I was reading a blog tonight and I saw where someone was saying that Marilyn Monroe was a size 16... so I did some looking up and it's true! That was a mind opener for me!

If I look HALF this good at size 16 I will be a VERY happy camper!

Uh huh! Its not that she was tall, just that a size 16 back then would be like a 10 today.

Australian sizes are different, I know. We run about 2 sizes behind you guys so your 14 is our 10. But in Australian sizes, last time I was this weight I was about 14 years old. I was a size 16 and now I'm a size 12. I've had 3 babies and the hips have spread a bit so sizes have sure gotten larger!

I just googled her measurements 37-23-36 - weight 115-120, height 5ft 5 and a half. That's pretty small. Definitely not today's 16.

Its crazy how much the sizes have changed. The sizes get bigger EVERY year. I've gone up and down so many times and every time I compare an old item of clothing (something that may only be two years old) to the current sizes, the older item is always smaller. Its really really crazy. I think this is why they have size 0 now, because a size 0 is really what a size 4 or 6 used to be.

For some reason the change in sizes only make me feel fatter in my mind. That's not good.

I agree that a size 16 then and now are totally different.

Australian sizes are 2 sizes different to US sizes but I think its the other way around.A US 14 is an Aussie 18.An Aussie 10 is actually a US 6.

Here is a link to a conversion tool that I find quite handy.

I know. I wore a 26 after my son was born, and that was at 250. At my highest 12 months ago I was wearing a 28.

I'm quite grateful for vanity sizing. Right now I'm getting close to a J. Crew size 16 (it's a weird mini-goal of mine), and that's only because they've gotten generous with the sizing. In Marilyn's day I'd be relegated to the fat store forever!

At my highest weight I wore a size 24, which is also what I wear now, which is also what I wear now, 35 lbs smaller. I see other people post who wear a 24 and weigh about 50 lbs less than me, so it makes no sense. It's so confusing.

Remember when Anna Nicole first came out in the Guess ads, she weighed about 155 or 160, and I thought she was one of the most gorgeous people I'd ever seen. I guess it's how you carry it.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
