Splitting up exercise throughout the day

Recommended Posts

Hey guys! I was just wondering...sometimes I have to split up my walk..20-30 minutes twice a day instead of 40-60 minutes at one time. I know they say as long as you get so many minutes a day, you're good, but what do you guys think? I work 7a-3:30p and try to walk before work and either on my lunch break or after work. I do notice that if I walk twice a day instead of once, I tend to walk more total minutes a day. Thanks for your time guys! Hope everyone is doing well! Leeanne :bored:

Hi Leeanne-

I also break up my walking and my dr says thats fine as ong as I get the exercise in. I start work at 6am so I really only have a 1/2 in the morning to walk and then in the evening I walk usually with my 12 yr old son or my husand and that is usually a 45 minute walk on most days. So you are right I do seem to get in more walking by splitting it up.

Good luck !

i think that you will always benefit from doing exercise, whether it is all at once or splitting up....both ways will be beneficial for you......keep up the good work. congrats:thumbup:

Personally I like a 40-60 minute duration but splitting it up is much better than not doing it at all!

I like doing it all at one time too Brad. It gets hard to fit it all in though! I start school in August, so I'm really going to have to squeeze it in! Wish me luck with that!

It may be even better that you are splitting it up! I've read some study that says something about a better boost to your metabolism by doing some now and some later. I think the rule is that each bout needs to be at least 10 minutes, so you're doing great! From an endurance standpoint, it would be nice if you could get in one day of a longer duration (all at once.) Maybe on a weekend. And you can do one of your shorter walks at a faster pace, if that feels comfortable.

Hi Jen! Thanks for the message! That's what I do actually. I walk the whole 45-50 minutes when I'm off and split it up when I work. I do feel like I get a better workout when I get it all in, but I just feel good exercising at all! :)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
