Incredibly painful port site!

Recommended Posts

I'm currently 32+ weeks, and for a few weeks now I've been having intermittent port site pain that almost knocks me down. It's almost as if the area is being stretched too tight and maybe scar tissue or adhesions are pulling? Has anyone else experienced this during the last trimester? It is so painful it's hard to walk, but as soon as I sit down the pain is gone.

I've never had a unfill and I'm still restricted. No issues really with the band (although it's felt a tiny bit tighter lately), just that darn port!

:smile2:

Lately I have experienced port pain, my scar hurts (assuming from stretching) and the port if I lay wrong it feels like it is tearing..but overall it is just discomfort not knock me down pain...I hope the port pain goes away soon...your only a few weeks away..congrats!!

I just delivered in March and can TOTALLY relate. Screw the morning sickness, the port pain was probably the worst part of my pregnancy. It was intermittent up until 30 weeks... then it got worse from 30-36 and the last 4 (well, 5 weeks for me!) it was intermittent again. My doc told me to take some Tylenol and that help a bit. Unfortunately, nothing made it completely it go away so hang in there!

FYI - my doc had a difficult time finding my port after the baby... with all the moving around in there and that extra "mummy tummy" things change. It's *slowly* getting back to normal and they found my port on the first stick on my 3 adjustment post baby.

All the fun stuff you have to look forward to :smile2:

I think it is due to the extra weight & pressure around ur tummy... Im not blessed enuff to be preggers, but I have a very blunt nurse who told me when I complained about port pain "well lose 20 lbs and see if it gets better"..( I was kinda dragging my feet in the weight loss area!) Sure enough 25lb lighter and I don't even realize my port is there... I would say and hope the same is true for you guys as well once you deliver! Blessings to you and Congrats!

Thank everyone, I appreciate it. My OB is sending in a referral to the bariatric clinic on post...I know there's likely nothing they can do but I'd like to make sure it hasn't flipped or something. My port has always been kinda difficult to find and it was already at a weird angle prior to getting pregnant (I had to get my fills done under ultrasound), so I suppose a quick ultrasound check could determine whether it's moved.

kpdgal--I don't think it's the extra weight...I still weigh less than I did when I was first banded and I never had any port site pain before. Not to mention most of the weight during pregnancy is carried in the thighs, hips, and buttocks (for me anyway). My tummy is stretched tight and my port is actually closer to the surface than it usually is, unless it's the weight of the baby pulling on it.

Who knows...all I know is I can't wait to get my body back and get back on track again!

I am dealing with the same thing now- can you tell me what happened with your port? How is it going with your band after the baby?

Thanks!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
