Anybody develop diverticulitis after banding?

Recommended Posts

I started having lower left quadrant pain on Sunday and was diagnosed with diverticulitis yesterday.

I have been banded since April 7. Including my preop, I have now lost 49.8 pounds. I have been doing really well with my food choices and eat lots of veggies steamed and raw, and add Benefiber every day to my diet. I have definitely increased my Fiber intake.

I had this nagging little pain in that spot over a year ago, but it got better. Then last week, I had a bug with fever, stomach cramps. nausea, and lots of diahrrea. I was fine by Friday. Sunday this severe pain hit and I had a CT scan yesterday, confirming diverticulitis.

Now I am on two antibiotics and a liquid diet for 10 days!

My questions are:

Does diverticulitis have any relationship to Lab

Banding?

I thought increasing my fiber and eating healthier

was a positive thing for intestinal health. Did

increasing my fiber intake make it worse?

Did the flu bug cause the inflamation?

I have never seen anthing about diverticulitis on here, so if anyone has any info, I would love to know.

I have a constant pain on my left side and have been in the ER for it twice but I keep getting the "we can't find anything" speech. So?????? I guess I better do some investigating on this diverticulitis?

My pain was intermittent, worse when my bowels or bladder were full, better when I emptied them, and tender to the touch.

I had a CT scan which sowed a diverticulae which is a small pouch off the intestine that can trap food and get inflamed.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
