The doc wants me to drink 2 carnation instnt Breakfast shakes w/skim milk, plus 2 1/2 eight oz. servings of skim milk 3/4 cup of plain frozen vegies steamed, 3 medium pieces of fruit. for 2 weeks prior to surgery. Did anyone else have this strick of a diet??????

Yep! I was only allowed liquids..period, no fruit no veggies! It's hard, but after the first couple of days it gets much better. I struggled thru the first 4 days and then it was easy. I drank 4 protien shakes a day and Water in between or broth. Good Luck you can do it!!! Just keep your mind set on the goal.

I can't have any fruits, vegetables, etc. I have a full liquid, high Protein diet. I have to get at least 65g of protein per day. I can eat sugar free popsicles, sf pudding, low fat yogurt, strained creamed Soups, broths, skim or 1% milk, etc. Thank God I can have thin Cream of Wheat (I love that stuff!).

Liquied diet only for me too for 2 weeks prior to surgery. I went to CVS Pharmacy and bought their vanilla whey Protein Powder. I added 8 oz of Water and a crystal light on the go packet and shook it up real good. I also added about 4 ice cubes to make it good and cold. Believe it or not this is real tasty. At night to treat myself I would have 2 cups of chicken, beef, or vegetable broth. I made through, though it was tough. Good luck to you!!

I had to do 2 weeks of 4 Protein Shakes and 5-1/2 cups servings of sugar-free pudding, no sugar added applesauce, weight control oatmeal, or low-fat cream Soups (strained). A Half a cup is not much  But I'm happy to say I'm having my surgery on Monday!!!!! Then I have 2 weeks of just liquids to look forward to before going to mushy foods....:frown:.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
