Hello Everyone!!

How long did the whole process take from making the decision of wanting to get lap band, and making that first phone call, to your surgery date?

I have a phyc consult on the 17th on June and was hoping to have surgery end of July. Is that even realistic?

Did you have any bumps on the rode?

Thanks for all your advice!

Looking foward to get to know you all! :Dancing_biggrin:

It depends on your insurance. I started in November of 2009. It was my consultation visit then I had to have 6 more monthly visits per my insurance. So my last one was in May and I just had my surgery yesterday on june 2nd. so basically it took me 7 months from start to surgery. Good luck!

I was self pay. I knew my insurance was not going to pay. I called my surgeon's office in late January. On Feb. 6 I had a nutrition class, saw a counselor and had an appt. with the surgeon. That day he scheduled my surgery for March 16. I was glad it went that fast. My family is supportive and my husband says do whatever makes me happy. So I did and I AM!

It really does depend on your insurance. Make sure you have everything done before you go to your consult because that will be one of the last steps. It's not impossible if you get on top of things as soon as possible and keep on track, but from what I read it depends a lot on what you need done for your insurance and how fast they approve you. I got everything done before my consult and I was already approved, it took me less than a month, but remember, that was my insurance. Good luck!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
