complication questions

Recommended Posts

I just received my approval from my insurance company today. I was excited and called my DH. He was not so excited. When I asked why the change . . . he said that he didn't think I would get the approval and he doesn't want me to go through with it. He says i'm fine the way I am. Very sweet to say but I am not comfortable in my own body and feel limited to what I can do physically. He said he is worried about the complications and risks. I tried to explain that I am having the lap band and not the bypass. I explained that the lap band is safer and has less risks. Does anyone know of any literature/websites that I can show him to support this?

thanks

The book published by the Lap Band people is the best one. It answer all of your questions. I have struggled with food and weight most of my life and I did a lot of research before I chose this process. As a matter of fact, I did just about everything I could on my own before I chose the band and now I wish I had done it ten years ago. If your problem is never feeling full and compulsive overeating (also known as emotional eating) then this band will really help with those. You still have to work it, explore your feelings and deal with life but he band is help we need. Smokers have help, drug addicts have help, gamblers have help, why can't people with food issues get help? It is often difficult for spouses to understand what people with food issues go through. Have patience with him, help him to understand what your real issues are and I'm sure you'll both get through this. The band is wonderful. I wish you the best of luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
